We are considering having our driveway done by Go Concrete or Florida Deck. We like the look of the acrylic/concrete overlay, but we were wondering about durability issues and whether cracking from the underlying (original) concrete will become a problem down the road. We have had a corner crack in the original concrete driveway, which has been repaired twice, via The Villages Warranty Dept. The crack continues to return... and there is currently a small chunk of concrete missing.
Florida Deck told us that they can fix it with an acrylic filler...and that they come across and repair this problem frequently. Go Concrete told us that they can level it out with the material they use ... but that it may well crack again and cause a problem with the overlay ...which would not be warranted. Has anyone had any experience with a similar issue? Any thoughts or recommendations would be appreciated. |

Yes, if the underlying concrete slab cracks, the overlay will crack. We have a sidewalk in the back that has this issue. When Go Concrete came to reseal our concrete overlay after 3.5 years, we mutually decided to leave it alone as it is a thin crack.

hubby "sweaty" an expert in everything says it is a law of nature that concrete will crack particularly local driveways that are placed with no steel rebar cage or relief joints. If cracks bother you a lot, replace the entire driveway with a thick ( 6" min.) steel reinforced slab that will never crack, making sure the concrete is cured with water after placemment

Does Hubby know how much that would cost?
