Default 32159 Zip code

If you live in 32159 and your drivers license says The Villages you cannot buy a gun. It must say Lady Lake. Your drivers license must match your zip code. Found out today at RK Guns in Leesburg when they would NOT deliver a gun I purchased because of that problem.

Very interesting. Did it have to do with the county line?
There are many people living in Sumter County that have a 32159 zip code and the city can say either Lady Lake or The Villages, since the post office listed The Villages as an "alternate name" for Lady Lake many years ago (at the request of the developer). The more definite location of where you live is your street address or your voter registration card.

For 32159 the default city is Lady Lake, FL.
For 32162 the default city is The Villages, FL.
But either is correct.

I'd be anxious to know what the (Lake County or Lady Lake) Police Dept. says about your problem.

32159 is the Lady Lake postal code that some folks choose to use the name The Villages instead.....and does not matter for anything but the dot the i's and cross the t's gun requirements, apparently.

This sounds like a store policy issue, and/or ignorance on the part of the store employees. All you have to do to buy a gun in Florida is demonstrate that you are a Florida resident. Are they claiming that the driver's license is fraudulent?

They should have verified your eligibility to buy the gun on the day you made the purchase, before the waiting period for delivery began.

I would just go somewhere else to buy the gun.

Further, if you get a Florida resident Concealed Weapon License, the three day waiting period before delivery of the gun is waived.

Walk in, select your purchase, get the instant NCIC records check done, show your CCW license, pay for the gun and walk out with it.

Why? Because they have done an even more thorough check of your background, using your fingerprints, prior to issuing the CCW license.

Changed my license and went back to RK Guns today. The manager was there and I told him what happened yesterday. He said that the clerk that said that was WRONG! He said we can take care of that on our computer. When I arrived the state background system was down. I waited a few minutes and when it came back up I did the background check again. This time it showed both The Villages and Lady Lake for 32159. The state corrected the options. So your DL is good with either!!
BTW the manager gave me a box of ammo for the clerks stupidity.

It's been my experience that many gun dealers don't know the actual laws. This is partially because many of the laws are poorly defined and it's difficult to get clarification even from the state attorney general's office. Different dealers will interpret gun laws differently.

The result is that they dealers would rather be safe than sorry.
