Default Taki's

Did you see in today's paper that Taki's was shut down due to not passing inspections?

Yea. That's a great way to put a restaurant out of business ... make it a "news" item. That data you have to look for to find. Someone in the paper had to be hunting for it. And it was NOT a routine inspection - it was on a COMPLAINT. Wonder who complained? Bet Taki's doesn't advertise in the Daily Sun any more.

In 2011, David Corder didn't write that the Board of Health shut down Katie Belle's and Margarita Republic for the same reasons on the same day.

Fair journalism?

I'm all for fairness in journalism. But the issue here is Takis having 3 high-priority violations. These violations can contribute to food-borne illness. Shouldn't the public be notified? Yes, because it likely tells something about the character of the owner(s) if he/she allows violations to continue unchecked. The roaches didn't just start up on the day of the inspection.

And how about the employee who didn't wash his/her hands before putting on gloves. A restaurant worker could spread hepatitis this way.

It's too bad, Taki's is one of our favorite restaurants. I do hope they re-open, but I expect this to hurt their business.

As far as the rubber gloves go, I have seen many people take money from a customer then handle food with and without gloves, but I have yet to see anyone wash their hands before putting on the gloves. On the other hand, there is no excuse for cockroaches in a restaurant.

Has Takis taken care of the problem and reopened? When McDonald's had a problem in Colony it reopened in one day. I understand the lines were there immediately. Hope Takis survives this, but now that I know it, it's hard to bring my self back. Loved the Moussaka.

Takis is one of our favorite restaurants. I hope they get their problems solved and reopen.

When a restaurant gets to the point of being shut down I don't care if they fix the problem-I'm done.

In the case of McDonalds I'm done with both locations.

It seems to me the owner/manager/SOMEBODY should see a problem before it gets that far.

Are the other Takis locations owned by the same person or are they franchised out?

Not sure I'll be able to bring my self back. Someone said why did they ignore it and let it go on to the point of being shut down. Won't they do it again?

Yeah... free advertising! I can imagine... "Martha... we got to try that place they wrote about in the paper. I understand they have tons of roaches."

Being a retired restaurant manager, I can tell you that most of the time when this happens it is because you did not give the inspector time and respect. If you tell them you will correct the problem, say yes sir and such, it is seldom a problem
