I have a guest that will be in next week that requires a gluten free diet. Can you help me with what area restaurants offer a gluten free menu. Also if you are on a gluten free diet and have dined locally what items do you prefer at the local restaurants that offer a gluten free menu.
I do know that Bonefish Grill, Outback and Chilies offer a gluten free menu. Thank you for your help.

I know that Cane Garden and Bonifay Country Clubs have a gluten free menu. Ask the waitress for them when you are seated. Another good local restaurant is Mom & Dad's Italian restaurant on Hwy 441. The owner is gluten free and even makes homemade rolls especially for you when you tell the waitress you are gluten free. My daughter is gluten free and loves to eat there when she visits.

a friend of mine who has this condition was just telling me that Olive Garden is extremely careful in this matter, even bringing the dish out by hand rather than on a tray, to avoid contact with other foods. she should know!

Easy-Peasy.
Just go to The Villages Gourmet Club Website SEARCH Page (LINK) and at section 4a, select "Serves Gluten Free Food", then hit "Search" and dozens will show up in and around The Villages. Neat! Skip |

You can order gluten free items at almost any restaurant in the country, It's the biggest fad diet since Atkins.

Potsie, this is not a fad diet for someone who has Celiac's Disease
Food must be prepared separately from other's meals, as cross-contamination can occur on a grill for example. |

However, considering that less than 0.7% of the country is affected by Celiac's... The current "gluten-free" trend, is a fad. |

My wife has celiac disease and eating at The Villages can be challenging. Most times we believe the problem occurs when wait staff doesn't communicate with the kitchen. Meza Luna has been great. They will make you a special dish and they now have gluten free pasta. (I think their eggplant parm is the best I've ever had). Riccairdi's is working on a gluten free menu but the last time we were there the waiter assured her the eggplant was gluten free and insisted she get it cause he was positive it was fine. Well two hours later she was sick. Bamboo Bistro was a favorite of ours until my wife got sick before we even left the restaurant. The owner came over and sat down and apologized but wanted to know what I ate because perhaps she tried some of my food. That was the last time we went there ! It was very disappointing because we loved it there and went often. I believe the chef just messed up with the lettuce wrap appetizer. As Jimbo said the French Thai restaurant at Sumter Landing is safe and very good. Sakura actually ran to Publix to get Tamari sauce for her and the food is good.
Cane Garden has gluten free wings and pizza that is an occasional treat for her. Evans Prairie has been mostly good but at both country clubs she has gotten sick on salads. We're not sure why. She had the same salad two days in a row and only got sick on the second day. We figure it's cross contamination. I would suggest you approach the manager at each restaurant and express your needs. |

when we go out to eat she's very careful selecting food and taking to sometimes the owner or chef. Then they have to deal with my wife and myself as vegans, ordering takes a while ![]() |
