I am having a hankering for some great fish and chips, anyone know the best place to go? I prefer plain batter (not beer batter), freshly cut fries, and a mug of great beer to chug it down. Your suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Havana CC has good fish and chips. Ask for mushy peas and you will get a blank stare.

Thanks! I had a British friend who turned me on to good fish and chips. Your mushy peas comment makes me realize you too must understand good fish and chips. Must be a British thing! Here's hoping Havana CC is what I am looking for! (Fingers crossed)

I don’t know what area you’re in but south of 44 has 2 options. Fenney Grill has good Fish and Chips but I always get the potato chips because they’re homemade. I’ve never had the fries. Or you could go to McGrady’s Pub at Sawgrass which even comes with mushy peas but I’m not sure about the fries.

Agreed, I like Cody’s and O’Shucks in addition to Havana.

This is why I am asking. Spent quite a bit of money on Vilages restaurant food only to leave it on the table. Some restaurants seem to be hit or miss while others are just not up to par. Am I too picky? Is it just me?

Little Fin at Sawgrass is our favorite, very crispy.

Agree! Their fish is mushy. Worst ever.

I’m going to have to add my voice here as well - simply bad! I couldn’t finish it. My server actually told me afterwards that they had fried quite a few batches already in the fryer, so the oil was getting old - tasted like it too - plus the breading was the worst.

O shucks has good fried fish, not the best, since that was in London and outskirts. I think I had fish in London 5 days a week while we there. It’s hard to beat that foodie experience

Been to Cody in LSL worst service we have ever seen in a restaurant and lots of people have told us the same so not going back.
O;Shucks had good fish and chips but we made the mistake of sitting outside. Borders a garbage dump apparently and flying insects ate more than we did. Finally waitress came over to us with a can of insect repellent but too little too late. If we do go back would only sit inside |

Pubs in London do make it very well.

You might try McCracken’s Irish Pub on Main St. in Leesburg. While the fries were freshly cut, they come with Parmesan cheese. You could ask to have the cheese left off.

Pubs or street vendors, both were addictive. Guessing it was the light almost tempura thin batter that allowed the fish to be perfectly flaky.
