I used to grow one in a pot for years up north. Brought it indoors in the cold months. Could easily find a small one for under $10 at some garden centers years ago. I've been unable to find one at any big box stores or garden centers to add to my outdoor garden here in the Villages. Does anyone have any suggestions?

IMHO, I would check with master gardener to see if this is a suitable plant for this area, and they may also be able to tell you whee to buy. Personally, I would try KB Landscaping (route 462 near the rr tracks) that have a large selection.

They are native to this area. Being similar in look to the magnolia is possibly the reason they have fallen out of popularity. That, and that the required native tree being planted when building a house was a rule TV ignored and somehow was recently revised in the building codes.
I have to wonder if some people feel it is actually helpful to answer a post with " I don't know the answer, but you should ask (insert touted authority). Seems there are thousands of post replies on this site that are 'copy/paste'. |

Looks like I can get Bay trees from several of my wholesalers. I would deliver and plant 15 , 30 or 45 gallon sizes. Also a couple growers are field growing if you want something BnB of a significant size. If you want one in a pot, 3-7 gal may be what you're after, in that case just Keep an eye on Home Depot, Lowes, Rural King and Tractor Supply this spring, when they get those tree packages in with 2 or 3 of several varieties. I have noticed a bay or 2 in those lots.
