I spoke with the highly knowledgable Landscape Mgr at VCDD who made some recommendations. I've added a website and video for more info.

If your sagos have a white scale that starts underneath the leaf, that is Asian Scale. It is an airborn aggressive pest that has killed most of the sagos in South Florida and will kill ours too unless we take united action.

What you can't see is that scale also attacks the plant root, so a systemic drench is needed. Here are the steps Eric recommends:

1. Fertilize using Lesco palm fertilizer 8-2-12 developed by Dr Broschett of UF. Available at John Deere farm supply, Oxford, FL. Wait a week or so.

2. If your sick plant produces some green from fertilizing, use a drench on the entire plant making sure to cover the underside of leaf, entire trunk, and generously spray the circumference of leaves on the ground to soak the roots.
The spray can be bought at Lowe's or HD, is called Merit, mftr by Bayer Tree and Shrub. Caution to buy the pesticide, not the fertilizer by same name.

3. If sick plant does not green up and the leaves are terribly eaten up and all yellow, go ahead and remove the leaves and then apply drench as above.

4. Repeat steps 1-3 every 3 months. If possible alternate Merit spray with Safari and Tristar insecticides to discourage developing resistance.

5. To hire the job done, try one of these pesticide companies: Massey, Bates or Superior.
