Anyone who has had any Palm trees cut down and the stump removed I would appreciate any recommendations , I have 2 maybe 3, 25'+ Sylvester palms I want gone. Thanks in advance.

Just be very careful and do your homework. Remember these are PLANTS, they are not oak trees. Had two people in our neighborhood charged as if they were having live oaks removed because they had no idea of the differences. Having "stumps" ground can be very expensive. Again, palm "trees" are plants, very fibrous inside. If yours are diseased at all, even if not very visible yet, chances are the inside is very "spongy". If you hire someone to cut them down, have them cut VERY close to the ground. Instead of paying for "stump removal" (something worthwhile for oaks and other hard woods TREES, just use common stump remover from Ace or other HW store. We've used it on the remains of 3 palms we cut down ourselves at our house and all you do it pour some one and it works ! It's not over night, but just have them cut down so very little is left. If you have it done, main thing is do NOT take anyone's word that they are fully insured and licensed ! So many times we've taken someone's card, said we'd consider them, but when we called the state's toll free number to check the license and insurance, we've had it turn out to be a LEGITIMATE Florida license number...but... had NOT been renewed for years. Same with dept. of insurance, so many DID fine insurance ONCE, but the state of Florida does not go after providers annually to make sure their insurance is up to date. Do your home work, can't say it loud or often, enough ... the old "ounce of prevention" and it only takes a few minutes on the phone to check it out.

I used Jimenez landscaping services. The cost of stump removal is high? Removal of the stump was going to be around $400. Thats in addition to cutting down the palm which was $350. I just had the palm removed because it was planted to close to the house and foundation. They dug around the stump and cut the stump short. I then covered with rocks and you can barely notice there was a tree there. Best of Luck.

Palm trees are nice, at the beach and resorts. Not at your house. The upkeep is constant with the trimming and the pests they attract. The Villages painted a pretty picture on the sales advertising. A make-believe tropical paradise.

No need to call anyone. Just go to this website, and you can determine immediately if a contractor is licensed, and the type of license he or she has. I do it whenever I hire a contractor.

If you want to re-plant anything in that spot, grinding the stump will leave too many underground roots to plant anything larger than a 3 gallon. Most small trees/large shrubs will do badly planted on top of these root balls.

Good Landscape companies (there are less than 5 in the area) will dig the tree out, and NOT cut the tree down 1st. The trunk helps get the stump out. But this will likely cost more than cutting it down and stump grinding.

There is a tree farm that will PAY YOU for your trees and remove them/clean up area . But only if your trees are quality trees good for re-sale. They come look for free and make an offer. I forget the name of the place, but I know they come to the Villages every week or so to look at trees, and do a lot of removals when they come every few months to pick up trees. I have a past customer that is getting rid of 5 sylvesters and getting paid for them next month. The nursery is down south around the Tampa area if I remember correctly.
