Perhaps you can ask the Architectural Review Committee when you submit your request to remove the palm trees if they have references?

I've heard something similar to what NJ posted, trees with a trunk bigger than 4" need ARC approval, then I've heard it doesn't if they are Palms because they are classified as a grass. I've also heard there is a $500 fine if you remove without approval. I think I would check with ARC for be safe. Here are some older threads that may be helpful. You can also search anytime using the 'search' button at the top of the website.

We have been very happy with Michael's tree and Stump Grinding-licensed and insured.
(352)504-1597. We did not need permits. Mike would know if it is needed. He took down two queen palms for us-very reasonable |

If you are in the Lake County portion of the villages, there is a specific list of licensed tree removal firms, it was in the daily sun within the last week.
I agree with above, double check with ARC just to be sure about the removal of the palms. In any case, check with Seniors against crime for any firms that you are thinking of using, there are several fly by night firms that prey on villagers.

There is a company that will remove it and actually buy the palm from you. A neighbor used them recently. I'll see if I can get their information next time I see him.
Try looking up "We Buy Palms"./

Last year I had WISE tree service remove queen palm. It was probably 35 ft. high and 15 inch base. They was quick, clean, and done good job at fair price IMO. I would get at least 3 estimates from licensed tree service to get fair pricing. I called arc, last Year they said palms are not considered shade tree so no approval required. Won't hurt to call and make sure though.

Are they sabal palms? I would take the tops out for the cabbage...haven't had any in years.....sigh
By the way, Wise does all my tree work .. he gets high marks in my book, and know personally or have used most of them (tree services) If you want to plant anything back, you need to DIG the stump, not grind it. |

Dr. Winston, did you by chance find out the name of the company that your neighbor used that bought their palm trees? I tried to find a company online and only found some in California. Thanks in advance!

We had Reese Cason take out one for us last year and after the hurricane 2 more snapped in half and he came and cleaned them up and ground the stumps. He also hauled away all of our debris. Four of our neighbors were so impressed they hired him also.

Just had Adeleigh Landscaping remove a large queen palm, which was way too close to our house. They also did some oak tree trimming. Very satisfied.
Got them through Home Advisor. |
