This is a sprayer attached to a hose. The product is for a fungus on an evergreen tree up north...losing needles from the outside. I am using a product that has Chlorapholonil. The mix is supposed to be 6 ozs to 4 gal of water. No problem if i had a 4 gal sprayer. Need to spray high so I am using Ortho Tree Sprayette. I put in 6 ozs and then on the other side of sprayer it had gal marks so i added enough water to get ot 4 gals mark ...might have been 8 ozs of water. Then I connected hose and sprayed. All was good but the level in the sprayer has not changed and i have been spraying for 40 minutes. Anyone have any experience with this Ortho sprayette connected to a hose. Thanks

I'm not familiar with the product you are spraying but those hose end sprayers do not work well with powdered products unless the product completely dissolves-such as miragrow or other similar products. It is also possible that your sprayer is clogged from previous use. Easy fix. Put your finger over where the spray comes out. Turn on water at low flow. Water with no other place to go will come out the hose that draws the chemical into the spray head and it will flush out.
At best that type of sprayer goes about 20 feet. If, your tree is higher than that, you need a trombone type sprayer. As it has a screen where it draws up chemistry it does not get plugged as easily as a hose end sprayer. You may be able to get a trombone sprayer from one of the farm supply places such as Sparr. Or they can be bought mailorder. I will guess they cost like $50 today. Yet, another thing I regret leaving behind with our previous house. |
