Default Popcorn Ceiling removal

We are buying a villa in the Villages and want the popcorn ceiling removed. Recommendations of excellent contractors/ handyman services that charge a reasonable price will be greatly appreciated.

Please try a search on this site, this has been discussed several times, before you start, I would double check to make sure there is no asbestos in the ceiling material as this makes removal very complicated and expensive.

Yes, asbestos is a possibility and the last thing you need is a lawsuit. Test kits are fairly inexpensive if DIY but suggest a trained and licensed professional test it.

We did a the ceilings on a CYV in the LSL area ourselves (a rental unit we were remodeling). It wasn’t that bad as a DIY because the ceilings are not that high. It took two people about 3 days. We did it dry. I didn’t know about possible asbestos oops. It seemed like just regular plaster though. We wore masks but not asbestos ones. It took longer to patch and paint.

Cleaning is a bit of a project if you do it the way we did. Plastic sheeting only works so well. You want to do it with the house empty if possible.

Sorry I can’t recommend a specific handyman. I think most are pretty reasonable cost wise.
