Default US Oil tanker at anchorage off England hit by Container ship

You just can't trust anyone to do their jobs these days any more

A ship underway hitting an anchored ship is just inexcusable, didn't even slow down, meaning no one was actually on the bridge monitoring the traffic and conditions.. .

and surely there must have been audible warnings from the multiple radar systems they have on board, alerting them to a potential collision?

you would think but if everyone was eating breakfast or not within audible range, might not have been effective.

My last voyage was working on an oil tanker for the last time in the summer of 1990, and there were no automated warning systems for imminent collisions. The bridge was never left unattended, and I have had to turn on my spotlight on little sailboats with no lights at night, in very narrow channels so that they both saw us and I could monitor them. . Never know what stupid will do.

the analysis shows that the ship never slowed down, and that means unattended. You aren't supposed to have an unattended bridge at anchor as well, but it does happen. .

Report says Stena is US-flagged, but its stern shows "Hamilton" which would suggest it is Bermuda-flagged

Also, other reports say it was moving very slowly, as opposed to being anchored

Time will tell, but at least all crew appear to be safe

Story still developing. Might not have been an accident from what I’m reading.

Solong is the container ship registered out of Hamilton Bermuda, the supposedly offending ship which didn't slow down .

The Stena is a US flagged ship, AMO union manned, and was reported anchored when I looked, but potentially that was after the accident.

Either way, mates, captains and pilots were not doing their jobs properly.

and FYI, i was a licensed ocean going tanker deck officer and pilot for 8 years, working for Gulf Oil and Sun Oil.

If you watch the video for which you sent a link, it starts with a shot of the Stena Immaculate's stern, which has "Hamilton" on it. Maybe that's old footage.

I listened to video, but didn't watch while listening. I read the ship histories on the links below.

This is the US ship current specs:

This is the reported container ship, which appears to be flagged in Portugal, and is definitely european

So I am guessing, that the picture was out of date, wrong, or inaccurate (various synonyms for the picture being wrong) and I was responding to inaccurate information as well. . my bad, sorry.

Tanker and cargo vessel in fiery collision off English coast, triggering explosions and fuel leak

I am hoping that this wasn't a case of sabotage, as the US can't afford to lose any oil tanker ships.

marinetraffic.com confirms that the Stena Immaculate is now US-flagged, having previously been Bermuda-flagged - no date given for the change

I am hoping that another ship is purchased to replace her, as that is only 1 of 10, if I remember correctly, the number could be wrong, US owned/flagged tankers. . .

We need them to insure that we can better avoid any liquid energy supplies, particularly to the military, as most of our defensive forces are air force related.

good luck to US

Atlas Shrugged. Sounds like the work of Francisco D'Anconia.

Looks like sabotage, from the Russians, as the captain of the Solong was a Russian National.

the world is in its unhappy phase, with the elderly trying to get back to the past
