Default Use Vontage Phone Service?

Does anyone have an opinion about the quality of the Vontage service? I am looking to change from Verizon.

I'd be interested also. I hear the cost is much less with Vontage. My sister has it and I can't tell the difference in quality. Being a snowbirder, I'd like to cut costs anyway I can. ANYONE??? Can you answer Prizmz question? Thanks,

We have Vonage in Central NY (it's virtually the same everywhere; all you need is a broadband internet hookup). I love it. No problems whatsoever, and we've had it for about two years now. Easy hookup to your broadband modem and the quality is the same as we were getting from our Verizon phone line. My Verizon bill hovered around $75-80 per month. With Vonage, after they add in all of the taxes and fees, the total bill is about $35.00 with unlimited US long distance.

Vonnage is good, but Ooma is better. With Ooma you buy the unit for about $200.00, then there are absolutely no more charges EVER. It goes thru your internet connection. We have had it for two years, first in Tampa and now here at TV. We also kept the same phone number, but that was probably because we were in same area code. For a small yearly fee with Ooma you can have two people talking to two different people on the same line - still only one number,, it is quite amazing. For a litle added touch, after you dial a number you hear a little chime for about 5 seconds. Reception is excellent.
Don't know about overseas calls with Ooma, we use Skype for that. Check out their web page. People don't believe us that we have no phone bill.....it's sorta like trying to explain TV and Florida Medicare to Northerners.

Another vote for Ooma. Works great. Cost was $210 at Costco and no more phone bill. I will tell you it works better if you have the higher speed broadband from comcast then is does with the limited option.

I use a vonage phone for my home office and it works great. I make a lot of international calls and it has free or low rates (depending on the country) for that service...if that is important to you. i am very pleased with it.

I can give another vote for Vonage. We have used Vonage in TV about two years. Quality of calls is excellent. Our plan is about $24.95 per month. We couldn't be happier.

Default Had Vonage switched to Ooma.

We are not big time phone people who spend hours talking on the phone or use text messaging.

Vonage was great. I had the 500 minutes plan for $17.99 (around $24 with taxes). The number of features like caller ID, call forwarding, etc. is great. Quality was great. Only problem is that if your ISP goes down you do not have a phone. The best thing that they had was call-forwarding. It is cool to have someone call you at home and you get the call in Montana. Blows the caller's mind. We also use a pay-as-you-go phone from T-Mobile for road trips and for a back up phone if our VOiP goes down.

We switched to Ooma basically because it is FREE once you buy the modem. Pay back for us was 10 months because we used Vonage. If you have another service it could be a soon as 4 months. We have had no problems with it. Quality of the calls is good. It does not have all the features, particularly call-forwarding, that Vonage has but you can add those for $10 a month.

Both Ooma and Vonage require modems that you connect to high speed internet service. It is relatively simple to set up.

We've been using Vonage for four years with unlimited calling to Canada. We have two virtual telephone numbers. Our Florida number rings in Canada when we are there. Our Canada number rings in Florida. Weird and wonderful.

If you install Ooma at each home, have a cell phone, get a google voice number, your only cost is for broadband which you would have anyway and the cell phone. By using google voice you can have phones ring in any combination you want, all features are available free, and a significant drop in cost.

With those using Vonage in TV, do you have Comcast or Centurylink as your Internet provider? I have Vonage using cable and was wondering if you're using Centurylink DSL, if there is any problems? Thank you.
