I have a real problem with gaps in my courtyard villa glass sliding door. I want to replace them and am looking for ideas of what to replace them with and who to have the job completed by. I have even considered a window rather then a door.
I have done some internet research, but I was hoping some Villagers may have some ideas I missed. Thanks, in advance for your ideas! |

Perry's Windows and Doors at SS in the Belks Shopping Center has been running ads almost daily the last couple of months in The Sun. I've been considering doing this myself. They remove the sliding door and replace with french doors that have mini-blinds inside the double glass. This photo is from their website.

OP, did you have gaps before? If not, you may just need new rollers or other maintenance. If there is nothing else wrong with the doors (sliders) this maybe a relatively simple fix. There are several handy men on this website that should be able to give you a hand.

My concern would be What’s causing the gap? villagetinker is right these doors are an easy fix, replacing them can be expensive. Did the problem develop recently? Has the threshold sagged check it with a level if that’s the problem a shim is a very easy fix. I also have a courtyard villa if it’s your dining room slider and you have an interior slider you can switch them out, our villa has 3 sliding glass doors and a closed in lanai’s.

"I have even considered a window rather then a door."
Please be careful about changing from a door to a window. Although a proper building permit should catch it if a problem, you might have a building exit problem if you remove a door. I am not a building expert by any means but it's something to think about. |

Wow! Thanks for all of your help.
Let me explain gaps - I continually get gecko's coming in that door. In the morning when I wake up and open the blinds, there is yet another gecko either inside the screen or inside my house on the door. The door is shut all night! I love to watch the little critters but this is starting to become unnerving to me and therefore needs to be fixed. Replacing the door is a last resort, but I think I am reaching the end of my rope. ![]() |

These should be replaceable, but I have not actually looked for these. Hope this helps.

I agree gap somewhere, putty or weather stripping has deteriorated creating path for the lizards.. IMO simple reseal or replacing the weather stripping. Easy to take out, but be aware the are heavy and want to stick when up lift them up to slide out of the track so watch your toes when the weight drops.
