Default SolarTube Lights and Solar Attic Fan

Hello. We're newbies here to The Villages. We are interested in getting solar tube lights and also a solar attic fan installed in our home. We priced The Solar Guys and also Solar Lights and More. Solar Lights and More has some nice specials going on and ended up being less expensive for 2 tube lights and 1 attic fan. Has anyone used them before? I am looking for some review on them please. We have an appointment set for them to come by and install but would like to hear from others first. Many thanks! Chris

After much research, we used Solar Lights and More for solar tubes and attic fans. Great company, very good products.

If you are so inclined, use the search box at the top of this forum page and type in Solar Lights or Attic Fan. You'll be able to read past threads, opinions and recommendations…. mine among them!

We used Sky Tec. Did a fabulous job on installation. Also lifetime guarantee on fan. And 20 year guarantee on skylight. Their products can be seen at Market of Marion Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Check the products they have, they are on A aisle between C and D

We did not need any solar tubes, and after researching solar attic fans, I went with a conventional A/C powered unit with a thermostat. Cost about 1/6th of solar, and moves about 5 to 10 times more air. Also runs until the attic is cool, not until the sun goes down. No roof penetration require was another big point.
Just my thoughts, which when combined with about $3 will get you a good cup of coffee.

We just had 4 solar tubes installed by Solar lights and more and we are very satisfied with service and price. Made our choice because we liked the larger lights for the kitchen and dining room. Two small ones in master bath and laundry room. Great job and Rich was very helpful.

We do appreciate that Villages residents have a choice of companies and products when they are looking for more natural daylighting and solar attic venting applications, and honestly we are not always the most fitting choice if people are making a decision based solely on the cheapest initial cost. What we do encourage residents to consider, however, are all relevant factors so that they can make an educated choice:

PERFORMANCE: Only Solatube brand carries a highest performance guarantee. This is because Solatube invented and patented Fresnel lens dome technology that bends light down the tube, which no other brand having a passive dome can match. Also, Solatube’s spectralight infinity tubing material carries a 99.7% reflectivity that is also patented and unmatched by any other imitation brand. These two design patents mean that, size for size, a Solatube will bring down more overall light throughout the day and better quality light than any other imitation brand. This can be verified in that no other manufacturer carries a highest performance guarantee like Solatube, and most other imitation brands have to manufacture an 18 to 21” size large tube for bigger room sizes in residential homes. Solatube’s 14” tube is all that is needed to bring down the same or more light than these off-brand lesser performing units.

PRODUCT: Solatube is the only brand that has been featured in national advertising and on national TV programs like the HG tv channel and Bob Vila’s “This Old House.” These venues also had a choice of brands and products, and chose the original, patented Solatube as the product to endorse. Also, the FL Product approval on both our Solatubes and our Solar fans guarantees that the products are manufactured to the highest standards possible.

COMPANY: As far as companies performing the work, The Solar Guys is the only licensed Roofer and General Contractor that is doing this type of product install. Just look on the “Talk of the Villages” blog and you will quickly see that we are the overwhelming choice for most discerning customers for the reasons listed above. Even the Villages warranty department recommends our company as the one to have this type of work done. These are not solicited endorsements, they are informed choices by people wanting the best investment for their dollar.

You are also always welcome to visit our local showroom located on 441 just 1 mile south of the Market of Marion. We have about 15 units installed in different sized rooms with all the different fixtures and accessories.

We used The Solar Guys a number of hers ago 2 solar lights and a solar attic fan. Superior product and their work is perfection. Many years later and we have never had any issues. Looking to do a third solar tube in the future.

You may wish to do some research on attic fans. They may actually do more harm than good as air from the air-conditioned spaces of your house may replaced the air exhausted out the roof by the attic fan. Also, the physics of heat transfer is an attic is not what most people think. This has been studied in detail and is easily researched via google.

I've had 4 solar tubes installed, by The Solar Guys. I appreciate they come to your home, and give advice on, where to place them, and what size is required. One-14inch, and three-10 inch lenses were installed. I also had a solar fan installed on the roof, that will suck the hot air, from the eaves of the roof. It makes the roof last longer, and I have notice a much reduced bill in electricity, You would have to live a very long time to get all your money back. I also got a tax write-off as they are IRS deductible.

I chose the optiplex type lens, that throws off rainbows. I never need to turn on a light during the day. 2 are tied to existing light switches for nighttime use. I have a CFL bulb but led type lights can be obtained. It's very easy to change a bulb but I don't think I will ever have to, as my lights, are on only, a few minutes a day.

I guess one can get these items cheaper, but you get what you paid for. The difference in price will come down to pennies a day, over the lifetime of solar tubes.

The Solar Guys are courteous, reliable and knowledgable. It was a pleasure to do business with them. I am a very happy camper with the quality of their products, along with a professional installation. No runs, drips, or errors, and it rained heavily a couple of times after installation.

As my son says, "buy it nice or buy it twice".

BTW - I am not a rep for The Solar Guys but a happy customer. Thanks to Tim, Larry and Ed for a job well done.

We have 4 solar tubes in our home all installed by the previous owner. Three are SolaTubes and the fourth is another brand. We can see a noticeable difference in the fourth; not as bright. Previous owner couldn't remember who installed the fourth but he did say it was cheaper.

Glad to hear that you like your genuine Solatube's. That is a great point you bring up about performance and brightness. Most people have no idea what the smallest change in reflectivity can make on the light output. He have a page on our website that explains exactly why imitations bring down less light.
