Default Small animal chewing holes in lania screens

We have been having a problem with some kind of small animal, probably a mouse or rat, chewing about 2" round holes in our screens on our lanai. Does anyone else have this problem. Our pest control company placed a box outside of our lanai with bait in it which they say will kill whatever it is. Just curious as to whether or not anyone else has had this problem.

Thanks.

Could be a squirrel. We called our pest control at Massey and they don't handle squirrels etc. Maybe I need your company. Can you tell me who you use?

Do you have a grill on your lanai? An earlier thread a few weeks ago, talked about rodents chewing through screens to get to them.

Default Holes in the lanai screen

Unfortunately you may have the same problem we had, palm rats. When we bought the 3/2 CYV, there was a mother and two babies living in the lanai are flower pots. They left through the screen hole

Had a friend who discovered holes, round ones, in her screening on the lanai....it was Sandhill cranes making the holes.

What's a live trap? We didn't have to worry about this in NJ.

We have actually seen the Sandhills do this. Three of them decided to attack my neighbors lanai screen and what a mess they made, but they are high up, not low down - Sandhills are tall. Their landscaping company suggested putting a 3ft garden edging with bushes all around the lanai, which they did, and the Sandhills no longer bother them

Default We had the rat

It was me who had the same problem. We had a rodent chew through two of our largest screens on our lanai. We called Massey and they told us to get the grill off the lanai as the rodents are after the drippings from the grill. They can smell the food. Massey came and put a bait box outside the screens. They eat the bait and then die. We also put a rat trap inside our lanai and low and behold we got him!! No more pests since. We didn't want a live trap because they have a good memory and didn't want them back again. We have since put the grill outside the lanai so if the rats come around again at least they are not chewing the screens. It's getting expensive to fix! Oh...take any food or bird seed off of your lanai as the rodents can smell it and they will go after it. Good luck.
