Thinking about replacing the bedroom and living room carpeting with either wood laminate or luxury vinyl plank. What’s your preference and who’s the best company/person to complete such a project?

We used Royal Palm Flooring in Summerfield. 32-20-7650 and installed LVP, luxury vinyl plank. Love it! Neighbors have come in to see it and can't believe it's not wood and they touch it to see that it is vinyl. We went with a very light color and it makes the house look so much bigger.

I am a retired Shaw Floors employee. We had all the carpeting replaced with wood composite by Roberto's and I highly recommend them.

We replaced our old PREGO laminate flooring with vinyl plank flooring. We are very happy with it. It's waterproof, quiet, looks great, and has completely changed the look of our home for the better. We did spend the money to get a better variety that looks very real...most people can't tell it's not real wood. The color we chose was driftwood in the 8" wide planks. We used Great Lakes Carpet on 441.

of the 2, we prefer engineered wood & we install both on conc floors now,,, lvt's still linoleum to me - eng wood's refinishable & has more class imo,,, however, we're talking about YOUR house/home,,, seems to me its YOUR decision

Regarding who to use. Remember this: the product is very much the same at most stores. Just check the manufacturer and specs of the product. What is more important is the cost, customer service and most importantly the installation. There are several good companies. We chose The Floor Shoppe because: 1- Out salesman, Angel, really took the time to help us choose the right product. 2- The price was correct. 3- the installation was fantastic. Clean, careful and professional. One last note: each store’s pricing was different. Some did not include things like new floor molding (1/4 round). Be sure your quote includes everything. The Floor Shoppe was the one place whose quote included everything. Good luck. The bottom line is our flooring looks fantastic and we couldn’t be happier. |

My question is why people remove carpeting &replace with other flooring. Then all you see is area rugs all over the house?

We used Robertos for our floor. You do want all the baseboards pulled and painted when put back so they do not use a 1/4 round to fill in gap between floor and wall. Also, make sure to specify not to use transition pieces when going from a tile to wood flooring. Do not want to have a wood piece to fill in the change in height.

I have to wonder how much off gassing vinyl planks emit. I know there is some with laminate (different types have more than others) and lots from any glue used for either real wood or engineered wood. It's a big factor for me. Made sure to let the laminate I used off gas for a long time before subjecting myself to it.

![]() We are thinking of doing the same thing. Although I love Oak and Cherry flooring being from up north, I kinda think in Florida you go with a light color like grey. Still not sure of that. |
