I'd like to have my inground spa in my lanai removed, its become more of a pain than its worth.
T&D installed it at the time the villa was built and has been maintaining it ever since. However, they have no interest in removing it for me, the response was they are much too busy and can't even talk to me for a few months. Lately, their service has been less than stellar, I think they are getting too big for their britches. Does anyone have any suggestions on a contractor who might be able to do this job? I know its not an easy one but there must be someone who can do it, other than T&D. Thanks for your help.

Kathie,
We were in the same position with our spa. It also was built by T&D when the house was built. There was a leak somewhere that caused the water level to drop daily. We had a leak detection company out of Clermont come four times and they couldn't find the leak. Then T&D started doing their own leak detection and they thought they found the leak and repaired it, but it kept leaking. Rather than spend more and more money trying to find the leak(s), we contacted them about removing it and were also told they were busy but would put it on the schedule when they had a chance. About 3-4 weeks later, they showed up and started taking it out. They did a great job, especially since they salvaged the low wall that remained after the raised concrete deck was removed with the spa so the cage didn't have to be redone. You may want to see if they'll do it for you anyway if you are patient about the scheduling.

Thanks, Mikeod, that was very good advice. The attitude of the lady who I talked to was so abrupt and firm about not even thinking about it or giving me a quote (maybe I should just ignore the quoting part but that goes against my Purchasing background) but I can't do that. She also told me to look elsewhere. I think she has a problem with me and I have no clue why. Maybe its because of all the problems I've been having with the spa and she's faulting me for it. ???
Photo1902, I was a HUGE fan of T&D and have been using them for my spas in two houses since 2007 but lately there seems to be a lot of inner bureaucratic rules and regs that are very difficult to deal with. In the past, I worked with only one lady and she handled everything for me but if she passed me over to another person, she did it with grace and pleasantry. I'm not getting that feeling lately.

What about just filling it in with dirt then decking?

I thought of that, still contemplating it. Probably the cheapest way to go.

Probably should check with Sumter County, before filling with dirt.

We thought about filling it with dirt and covering it. But our spa was raised about a foot above the lanai level with a concrete surround. Filling it would result in a raised platform that was of limited use to us. By removing the entire spa and raised area, we wound up with a flat deck that we could use for many things. Here's a picture of what we started with. (A car came through out lanai and caused the damage you see.) If your spa is completely in ground and not raised, I guess filling it in would work well. But I agree you should check with the county.

Hi, again, check with Action Jackson in the paper. On T and D, we have not used them but,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, have heard from others, that they (TD) are not always good. There are supposedly some good reasons for this but since we do not know first hand, we will not repeat what we have heard. However, after all that, perhaps better to check out some other sources. Also check with Tim Cox, he probably cannot do it but he knows some competent guys and he is really great. bbbbbb |

My spa looks exactly like yours and I want to remove the entire thing and resurface the area for more patio space. I'll give T&D a second chance by not asking for a quote first (since you were kind enough to give me an idea on price) and see if I can shake them up a bit.
