Quite some time ago, there was a thread here on Talk of the Villages about the pros and cons of power washing one's vinyl and some one suggested what turned out to be a better way for me. No water under the vinyl causing rot and no chance of damage from the high pressure washing.
What someone recommended and what I tried was to mix a solution of one third bleach to two thirds water. Spray it onto wet vinyl and let it sit for a few minutes. Rinse it off with your hose and your vinyl will be as bright and clean as it was the day the contractor put it up. The sprayer is one of those garden sprayers people use for insecticides or other garden sprays. One or two gallon pump type sprayers. I had green algae on the north side of my house and it took it right off.

I cannot offer any insight to this bleach and water spray, but I really do wonder how chlorine reacts with vinyl. Are there any chemists around who could offer an opinion?

I use Richard King 352-408-2094 and he has always done a great job. Designer home was $50 and Designer home with a pool (huge birdcage and white painted lanai) was $90. Always on time and good work.

We use "No Pressure" house washers, and they do a great job. Cost is $45.00 for our Patio Villa. They do the house, fence, and lanai. They also schedule the work to be done every 6 months so you don't have to think about it.

I, too, use Kirk's and he's very good @$45 per pop. Incidentally, there was a link at the beginning of this thread that will provide you a quote from three different exterior-wash companies.

Used Fin***s in the past they do a fine job, but showed up at our home recently unannounced claiming we were " on their calendar" for a cleaning every 6 mos. We were not there, they cleaned our home and have now contacted us looking for payment !! Anyone had any similar experience with them? Don't want to give their full name but if you've used them you will know who I am speaking of.

YEP...me too...Highly Recommend John Kirk. Does a great job and doesn't charge an arm and a let and doesn't just come do it every 6 mos. and then send you a bill!!! I don't like the idea of that of all!! We just called him and he was there in a few days. |

I clean my house and a few of my neighbors. Here is what I have found to be very good.
I bought a cleaner from Ace Hardware. 3/4 cup is added to a gardern sprayer along with 2.5 cups of bleach, the rest is water to make up 1 gallon of solution. I use a low pressure sprayer (not a garden hose) I wet the siding in small zones with the low pressure washer followed by the garden sprayer solution. Then in just a few minutes I brush (with a soft brush) the area with Meguiers cleaning/wax solution mixed with water. Then a thorough rinse with the low pressure sprayer. Don't leave the bleach mixture on for long and don't let it dry out. The Meguiers is the cleaner/wax we used for years on our RV. It cleans well and leaves a very light wax on the surface. This makes it much easier to clean the next time. The low pressure sprayer actually uses way less water on the siding as it puts out a more atomized mist as compared to a straight stream of a garden hose and rinses very thoroughly. I have found this to be very good and normally only needed once a year. |
