Looks like we will soon be needing a new roof, which is going to require the removal and reinstallation of our pools solar heating system. I just got a jaw dropping quote from our initial installer, T&D, that far exceeds what we paid for the original system with all brand new equipment. Since this will represent a significant expense, I want to get a couple quotes from other companies to insure we are getting the best value. For the price T&D quoted us, I am thinking about having new panels installed so I can reset the warranty, rather than putting used panels back on a brand new roof.
Any recommendations from pool owners that have used solar contractors other than T&D would be greatly appreciated. |

Anybody? There are 7,800 views and 25 replies on a thread about a plastic shot glass dispenser on a golf cart so the carts occupant’s can do a shot if one of them gets a birdie while golfing. TOTV certainly isn’t the place to go, the way it used to be, where residents share advice with each other that could actually be useful. This site is becoming a waste of time.

I do not have first hand experience, but as I recall neighbors used Jack's (?) solar. I am sure an internet search will provide a list of local providers, then you can check BBB, Seniors against crime for any complaints, and finally call what remains for estimates. On a side note, I have seen a few neighbors replace the solar heaters with either gas or electric heat exchanger type units (similar to air conditioners).

I did this exact thing last year. I'll go looking for the paperwork tomorrow, off the top of my head I can't remember who it was I had do it for me.

We used Solar Lights & More (352) 690-9664. To remove the old panels before the roof replacement and install the 9 new panels after the new roof was installed was $4,300

I wouldn't spend the money to replace it. Doing the cost analysis when I purchased my pool, the system would never pay for itself. It works great in the summer (when I don't need it), and can't heat the pool to the temps I want during the cooler months (I keep my pool at 88-89 during the winter months). The only way to heat the pool at that point is to have an another heat source - either gas or electric.
My electric heater maintains my temp at an average of $30/month ($0 from early spring to late fall, and then $40-$60 during cold months). Using a solar system will take $0-$30 off my cost during the colder months, so at an installed cost of $5K -$8K it will never pay for itself. Just a thought ![]() P.S. I wasn't going to comment, but you complained that no one was commenting ![]() |

New roof coming next week, Jacks Solar removed the panels they installed 10 years ago, just this morning.
I would give them a call for a quote. They are in Umatilla. 352-267-4903
