Was thinking of buying my own 4 ton central AC unit from one of the online sellers.
But would have to find AC contractor to agree to install unit that he had not supplied. Has anyone done this? If yes, any AC guys to recommend? Thanks in advance to any who reply. |

I think that is a terrible idea. You need to get 3 quotes and hire a reputable HVAC contractor to supply and install the equipment and provide a comprehensive warranty for the entire system. Two good ones are Munn's and Chuck Farrell.

OP, you will need to call these firms before you order your unit and actually get a commitment to do the work at the stated cost and you are setting your self up for possible problems if the existing thermostat or wiring is not compatible with the new unit, and finally where do you go for warranty work? Hope this works out for you, but I would get the whole system locally, with a warranty.

How much would you save to take this risk? Using a local contractor's unit would be the safest. They will backup what they sell/install with service.
