I'm leaning towards Showtime as my first to call in the a.m.

Any negatives regarding the 3 listed above?

Are there other appliance repair folks who shine bright?
Call LG we have heard they are fixing fridges because of a problem for free.

I recommend David Dufoe, owner of Apex Services, 727-519-3441. He’s my grandson who was trained at the Porsche mechanic’s apprentice program in Atlanta. He went out on his own last year and opened his appliance repair business. He’s a highly motivated young man. He works on residential and commercial appliances here in The Villages. He will fully analyze your problem, explain what he’ll do to fix your problem, put everything in writing before he starts the repair so there’s no surprises.

I have an LG double door about the same age that stopped cooling 2 years ago. I had it serviced and learned that it was the compressor. The inside of the refrigerator was a sheet of ice behind the back wall. The service guy defrosted the the ice and it was running again. Service guy advised me to buy a new refrigerator but I found that it continued to work ok. However, I watch for the ice and have been manually defrosting every other month or so. It's ok as long as I defrost as needed. Not fun but much cheaper than a new refrigerator.
The service guy said that LG refrigerators compressors are famous for a short life.

Default Possible compressor issue

Possible compressor issue, If this is the problem there’s been a recall on the refrigerators that Lg makes I have a five-year-old French door refrigerator freezer and the compressor went out and it was covered in full by Lg so make sure that you check into that and if you have like an LG certified repair person they will be able to let you know if it’s OK if it’s the compressor and if So it should be covered in full by Lg because they know that they put bad compressors in some of the refrigerators it was a class action lawsuit so check it out before you pay big money to have it fixed. I hope this helps. 😊

Thank you to all who provided input. It aids all of us and will benefit those who search the forum for useful information in the future.

My first call was to Showtime based on the number of positives. Had they not been able to service within a reasonable time I would have gone with Thibodeau - Becks - or Bobs. Based on multiple positive comments for each - all seem to land on the top shelf.

Called Showtime 8am on Tuesday - Mario arrived at 2pm on Wednesday. Within minutes he diagnosed a failed compressor as the culprit.

My fridge is a 2017 with a 10 year warranty on the compressor. Mario informed me that LG requires proof of purchase before they will honor any warranties. The fridge conveyed with the house when we purchased it 2 years ago. The previous owner left appliance manuals but no receipts. I had no proof.

I was presented with 2 choices. 1) Call LG and see what they will do for me - if anything - then reschedule with Mario. 2) Pay the full freight now then see what LG will do. Mario stated that LG might issue him an authorization for the work he performs. If so, then he will reimburse me for whatever LG pays him. Or, LG might directly reimburse me.

Mario said it was definitely worth running it down with LG as they tended to be more customer friendly then most appliance manufactures.

Mario was here for almost 2 hours - replaced the compressor and dryer / updated the mother board to accommodate the improved compressor. $300 for the compressor $75 for dryer $475 for supplies/labor $60 for tax = $910

This specific model has been discontinued. A similar replacement would be around $3,800. I asked what would be the most likely next item to fail - he said probably nothing...but in several years another compressor. $910 to revive a fridge that both my wife and I thoroughly enjoy versus a new purchase - was a no brainer.

Immediately upon Mario's departure, I called LG. Within 2 minutes I was speaking with a live representative. I explained the situation and asked if they could cover the repair despite not having the proof of purchase.

The rep asked for service provider (Showtime is an authorized LG rep) and a copy of the receipt which I texted to the rep during the call. Rep did not commit to anything but created a case file and sent it as a priority for some level of consideration. I received a case number by text and was told I'd receive a call within 48 hours with the outcome.

Showtime / Mario provided fantastic service. He arrived with all the potential parts that I might need to resolve the failure. A one call resolve.

LG was easy to contact - Showtime was in their system as a recognized service provider - it only took a few minutes to establish the claim.

I'll post the outcome with LG in the next few days...

Throw it in the dumpster and buy “American” Whirlpool or at least a Frigidaire! LG, Kenmore and Samsung nothing but junk and an honest repair person will tell you that!

Default Refrigerator repair

I have used Jerry Thibodeau several times, he responds to calls very quickly, shows up on time and absolutely knows what he's doing.

Post LG Compressor

My fridge is a 2016 LG with a 10 year warranty on the compressor.

Previous owner left manuals but no receipts so had no proof of purchase. Called LG and explained that in 2019 a compressor was purchased $297. In 2021 another compressor with filter dryer, freon & labor purchased $500. Since there was a 10 year warranty after reading this post, I decided to contact LG. I sent copies of both repair invoices and they reimbursed us for both. LG pays for replacement of compressor and labor within 5 years. Thanks for the post that has definitely helped many with the same problem.

Seems to me LG & Samsung make lousy appliances. My daughters 5 year old LG washing machine broke and when the appliance repair man showed up he said it's not worth fixing. So she bought a new Maytag.

What is the contact info for Thibodeau? We would request a service call for a home in Polo Ridge TV.

Default Apex Services

I recommend David Dufoe, owner of Apex Services, 727-519-3441. He came to our house the day after I called him to diagnose the LG refrigerator problem. He provided a written estimate. He is an honest young man and spent a lot of time diagnosing the problem.
