Default Microwave vent

Who would you call for a quote to install a vent thru the roof for the microwave oven? Out house does not have one that was installed when being built. Thank you for any information.

How old is your house< i believe these have been required for several years. If you are in Sumter County, you can get your house plans and see if there is a vent and if it is though the roof.

I cannot help with recommendations for this type of work, but be sure whoever you end up with provides a warranty against leaks in the roof.

Better off with a separate range hood from the ceiling above stove and microwave. If microwave eventually dies you will have to reroute the ductwork and if you do duct it you will lose the cabinet it's attached to. The microwave itself doesn't need a duct, it's the stove/oven under it. Microwaves are sealed. The "exhaust" fan that is part of the microwave doesn't exhaust the microwave itself it's basically just an air filter. This is all assuming you are referring to the "standard" (GE?) microwave they hang under the cabinet over the stove.

PM me,,just did this..Recurculating your smoke thru microwave is not the best choice. Works for some.
I just installed a over the range hood thru the roof....Love it. Not cheap....hole etc. somewhere from 500 to 900.
Hood is extra...

This isn't true.

I recently replaced my over-the-range microwave - Whirlpool, new in 2011. The opening for a duct to the rooftop exhaust vent is inside the wall behind the microwave.

The replacement Whirlpool microwave is not "sealed." There is a plate on the back of the microwave, located where the microwave meets the opening. Remove the plate and the microwave exhaust fan blows upward through the roof vent. If there is no roof vent, the plate is left in place and the exhaust fan blows into the kitchen.
