I think you mean birdcage canvas roofs, there were several previous threads on this, try a search for canvas.

If you are just after shade and NOT keeping the rain out, they make what are called 'sails' that can be attached to the inside of the aluminum structure and provide shade. I have seen these in several lanai's.
