Default Lanai Air Conditioning Systems

I am interested in having a air/heat system put into my enclosed lanai. Any recommendations on who to call.

There are 2 right ways you can go and 1 wrong way.

WRONG way...although it is the cheapest the wrong way would be to tap into an existing line in the family room and add additional ducts. You would be robbing cool air from that entire line and not getting enough air into the furthest point...the faimly room.

Right way....have a contractor determine the capacity of your existing unit compared to requirements as determined by a heat/ac survey which takes into consideration. total Square footage under heat/ac, the exposure (ie faces north south east or west), window exposure and type of windows (double pane /low-e, insulated etc.) . If your existing AC/heat unit can handle the additional SQ Footage, a separate flexible duct should be installed directly to the furnace that would provide heat/ac at equal levels compared to the rest of the house.

NOTE::: If your existing system is 10 years old or more you may want to consider upgrading this system NOW for you are past the 1/2 point of its useful life.

RIght way #2....if your existing system is still relatively new and cannot handle the added SF, then you should go with a ductless system that has a separate compresser located near the family room. Mitisubitisi sells a great system call the Mr BIG and it comes in various btu sizes to accomodate different rooms.

I would give Chuck Farrel a call 352-753-9497

We had a Mitsubishi "Mr. Slim" mini split system installed last year.

We had various quotes for the same part numbered units and decided on Daniel's Heating and AC in Inverness.

They are a Mitsubishi Diamond (approved) contractor and the price was better than anyone else. Installation was on time and professionally done.

Then had Insulco add insulation over the lanai.

We had a mini unit put in also, called a mini split I believe. We used Sumter Air and heat, after we called Munns first and did not appreciate their sales tactics.

748Caroline - I am confused - if the system can handle the additional load and a return is included - why would that application be any different than if it were included as an additional room in the original installation.

View a Home Depot sales pitch. It explaines the system. You could do your garage and lanai with 1 compressor unit. Mitsubishi Electric Ductless Cooling and Heating Systems - YouTube

We added a 500 sq. Ft. room to the back of our home. The Mits mini split works wonderfully. Cools quickly in the summer and warms fast in the cool months. We have a south facing room. You can get it done for under $3000.00. Very efficient too. We really don't see any changes to our HVAC bill.

We went this direction as well. Do consider the heat you get thru your windows. Tinted windows and a sun block shade reduces the heat factor a great deal. You will only do this once, so get it right and then really appreciate your additional year round room.

We did Temo system to enclose our lanai several yrs ago but south facing and still too hot. Standalone portable, Delonghi, just didn't do it. Got 4 presentations/estimates and included Daniels, Inverness, based on TOTV review. We decided on Daniel's. Everyone from Ray, sales, to installers and electrical contractors, polite, personable and professional. Everyone willing to explain what they were doing and why. Great teamwork, efficient, and great clean up.they started about 10AM and my wife and I had 5PM dinner on our cool lanai.

We just had estimate from M & S for a Mitsubishi unit for our Lani and it was $3400. Our Lani size is 10' X 31'
