Default Kin Insurance

After getting an over 30% increase in my homeowners ....Progressive (ASI) Insurance....i am looking around and received a quote from Kin for under $1000 about $600 less than Progressive (ASI). They seem reputable but there is limited info about this company who are not rated by AM Best, the premier rating agency for Insurance. I found nothing negative in my search. Wondering if anyone has dealt with them.

Here is an article about Kin Insurance from Clark Howard's website. It is a relatively new insurance company. They only do business online.

What's written in the policy has little to do with the "quality" of the company when one needs them for a claim and it takes 6 months to pay. Most all policies are written similar if coverage is similar but of course one still needs to know what they are getting. We had a roof collapse a number of years ago in NJ after 3 heavy snows in a row and that's when the QUALITY of a company shows or doesn't. Thank heavens ours was A++++. My neighbors with other companies waited weeks for what we had taken care of in 72 hrs. Unfortunately they only write policies in NJ. Right Nucky? You know who I mean. 33 years with them. Miss the quarterly dividend checks!

Of course you want a strong company...............but you are clueless if you thing policies are written similar. NO THEY ARE NOT. Exclusions baby, exclusions. When you have a claim, bad time to figure out.

Do Not Assume.

You might find more Progressive ASI customers having increases, I switched in 2018 from American Integrity because they had almost doubled my CYV in 8 years. I asked about ASI with my Villages Insurance agent and she said, they won't include sink holes in their policy. That might mean those onboard with that clause will see them trying to dump you or at least raise your premiums.

American Integrity had a complaints here on this forum about not paying claims, or dragging their feet, that combined with my rates jumping five times in eight years made me change. My Villages agent suggested Coastal Insurance and it was $420 cheaper than AI and the second year it did go up but only about $50.

Cabrillo Coastal General Insurance Agency – Residential property insurance for hurricane-exposed areas.

John, I am getting prices right now on a new policy for a home I am closing on in three weeks and Cabrillo Coastal was over $1000. I did find out Friday that ASI does not give sink hole coverage any longer. Tomorrow I should have a couple of more options to look at for coverage.

GreT keep us posted. I checked Liberty where I have about 10 other policies but they were over $2000. Kin was $908 with sinkhole. Allstate to call me tomorrow. I will post their reply

I don't know if the $1,000 was good or bad. In my case, my CYV was $985 with America Integrity and with Coastal it was $565 in 2019 and this past year it was $619. I had also gotten a price from AAA since they have car, and they were $965, only a $20 savings.

Our Traveler's Ins Co HO policy (from T.V. Insurance) included sinkhole w/10% ded. Full coverage (highest coverages, pretty low deductibles) was under $800 last July. That was our first renewal and it went up under $6 bucks. YMMV. Did a LOT of looking at that time and they were about $300 LESS than others WITHOUT SO coverage at that time for all other identical coverages.
