Default Installing new Heating and Air Conditioning

Any suggestions on good reputable companies to install a new system in home?

We just did that. Sunshine Air Conditioning had the best price on a Carrier system. I chose them over Munns for various reasons. I'm very happy with their work and clean up afterwards.

I would get several quotes. I like Munn's because they are a large company and have always been responsive, but they are probably not the least expensive.

Chuck Farrell, they did a great job for us, and their pricing was very fair.
And if you replace a gas furnace with gas, you get a nice rebate from Teco People Gas.

Chuck Farrell checked our unit out for a second opinion when we were told it had leak by our contracted air conditioning company, who also sent a service rep around to gives a quote on a new unit, $5,500.
Chucks technician verified the leak which was found to be minor and suggested to fill with Freon and check again in six months, he also quoted $3500 for a new unit. So I would go for Chuck Farrell.

Just make sure that the unit will have enough fan to reach all rooms of the house.

As others have mentioned in other posts, the master bath and bedroom is either much hotter or cooler than the other rooms. It has been looked at by professionals, and changes were made in vent openings, but it was suggested I needed a booster vent fan, which makes me believe the unit fan is not strong enough.

The unit that was replaced did not have that problem.

I have learned to live with the problem, but something to think about when installing a new unit.

He said your unit is only 4 years old and that part is covered for ten years, so he said the capacitor was free and they charged $80 for the service call. They did not install the unit originally when the home was built, it has Munn's on the unit.

At just about the same time, someone posted on this very message board that their capacitor had gone out and he called Munn's, they were the original installer of his unit, and he asked if $320 charged him by Munn's sounded right for that repair. He said Munn's never mentioned the part was covered by warranty.

I have since found out from this message board that Amazon sells the capacitors for $15.

From my reading the life of an AC capacitor is about 4 years.

As part of our annual service I asked the tech to test ours which is five years old. Truth, I don't know. He reported that it was weak.

I was a bit surprised that the original used by Carrier is made in China as I've read that the ones made in the US are better and longer lived. We had it changed as part of our annual service tune up and the cost including the part was $80.

I believe if you call for a service because you unit is not working and it is found that the capacitor has failed your cost will be almost twice what I paid-about $130.

I was told by Chuck Farrell it would cost $80 total, to come out and replace the capacitor, which included the (warranty) part, diagnostic, installation, service call.
This part is the most used "ripoff" scam of unscrupulous AC companies. Some will try to sell you a new compressor, when all you need is a capacitor.
Just replaced a REEM unit that had it's original 23 year old capacitor.

thank you for your reply. I have a service contract with them, so that's good to hear. I don't need it yet, but you never know.
