Default Florida Roof Specialists

A guy knocked on our door yesterday from this company. Are they legit? Has anyone used them? Thanks for any comments.

Be very careful of anyone knocking at your door about your roof, and do NOT sign an "assignments of Benefits" form. If they say they can get your roof for no cost, this is part of the roofing scam that we are now ALL paying for. If (and I am sure they will) they find 'damage', say thank you, then call your insurer to verify damage and coverage.
Insurance does NOT cover normal wear and tear on a roof, so if yours is over 10 years old you may need a new roof.
If you sign the above form you will NO LONGER be in charge of your roof replacement, you will not be able to choose color, type of shingle on when the work will be done or by whom, and you may still end up with a significant bill.
Call Seniors Against Crime to confirm.

APEX Roofing has been playing the same door know and get you to sign game for years now. Had a neighbor sign with APEX and the total bill for the roof after litigation was $24K whereas a neighbor close by with the same roof only paid $14K.
And we wonder why insurance rates have gone through the roof.

Florida Roof Specialists came by today. Said they were notifying everyone that they were working on a house nearby and if there was any debris on the road to let them know. Then they went into the free roof inspection offer saying that one particular issue in one location would be eligible for a free roof from the insurance company as mandated by Florida law.

I thought the new legislation eliminated these issues of exploiting the insurance companies. I may have to go down and talk to my neighbors and find out the details.

Young guy in a Cadillac was going door to door on my street saying they are on the next street doing many roofs and I could get a good discount or no charge if my roof was damaged (my insurance would pay for it). Free estimate. I asked: Do you think I need a new roof? He said yes all the roofs in this area are old and need to be replaced. Mine was due. I asked: "How much experience do you have doing roof estimates? He said "a lot". Then I said, "well my roof was replaced last year (TRUE), do you think it needs it again?" He left swiftly. Drove off. I called Community Watch and gave them the area and license plate of the Cadillac. They just don't care if we are a "No Soliciting Community".
Watch out!

Do you really think that the insurance companies lay down and pay when a roofer says "you have roof damage and I'll get your insurance company to pay 100% of it." Insurance companies are not that dumb.

Would be worth the effort to talk to them, but probably too late to save them from this scam... are they new to the area ? If so, warn them the old "semi filled with prime steaks destined for a major steak house just broke down out on the toll way and refrigeration unit if failing.... "authorized" by supplier to offer them to nearest community at half the retail price"... or some version there of, is again working the villages, along with the "roof inspectors".....LOL !

Unfortunately too many people fall for these crooks pitches so they keep doing it.

Do wish the bridge I have for sale would find a buyer.

If I understand the original problem correctly it was that many home owners were getting free roofs regardless of age because these roving salesmen were offering free inspections which usually resulted in an insurance claim. The scam was that the problem found may not have met the criteria for a roof replacement but the litigation costs were so high that it was cheaper for the insurance company to just capitulate. The owners who got a free roof weren't scammed but naturally there was a negative consequence which was higher rates for all. If there is a better explanation please elaborate.

I don't intend to have a roof inspection, free or not, unless there is an obvious reason for one.

Roofing scams put Florida’s property insurance market ‘on the verge of collapse’
