After wait a week for a quote after they look at the roof and took pictures i recieved a nasty email stating they lost the pictures and do not want to do the wasted Legwork in giving a estimate. My husband stated are you sure you have the correct customer?. Brent the owner replied yes and he stated to my husband that his phone is blowing up and he has lost pictures and our quote. HMMMMM if this isn't a red flag i don't know what is.
He also stated to my husband that he owns 3 houses in the villages and he is easy to get along with, hmmmm again. After talking to a nieghbor that used them, they said once they suck you in to get you to sign the contract thier follow up is terrible. I don't know why Brent stated he owns 3 houses in the villages and what that has to do with anything? Beware of them. I sure im going to get negative post regarding warning people. Its only a warning do what you choose to! |

I found their quote to be a lot higher than Sack Roofing for same shingles etc. When I told them they were too high he said they could not do anything. Used Sack and very satisfied.

I would never use a company that needs to advertise as much as they do. Good roofers have all the work they need by word of mouth.

We have used Skylight Roofing and had a very good experience with them. I would not hesitate to recommend them.

Same here, they did our roof just 2 weeks ago. Their quote was a little higher, but we chose a slightly higher type of shingle, so basically the same. Their follow through from signing to completion was excellent. Our impression of Brent is the complete opposite from the OP. But, things can happen to change one person's perception compared to another.

1. Roofing Quality. There are huge differences in roofer quality. The shingle is typically only about 25 percent of the cost you pay for a new roof. 2. Smart Business. An intelligent roofing contractor knows that if you buy based on the lowest price it is a waste of their time and yours giving you a quote. All you will do is claim they are a rip off because of their higher price 3. Roof Effectiveness. Many roofers build to minimal standards. A quality roofer builds for extreme weather. There is a big difference. 4. Manufacturers. There are cheaper shingles with the same claimed warranty. For example. IKO and TAMKO and AtLas cost much less than GAF or CERTAINTEED. To the naive. They're the same. Just try to file a claim from an inferior company. 5. Don't Be Fooled. Buying a roof solely on price is like choosing a steak restaurant solely on price. There can be huge differences in how roofs are installed... Just like there can be huge differences in how a chef prepared a meal. 6. Summary. You can't know if you got a good roof for at least 3 to 5 years until it's performed well through multiple extreme storms. Just because they're nice doesn't mean they did a good job. 7. Some detailed examples. Were the pipe boots typical that wear out in 5 years and leak or superior that last a lifetime? Did they use pro starter strips at the rake and eave for extreme wind uplift or so the typical 3 tab on just eaves? Did they use roofing nails that come loose or special rang shank that perform much better? Six versus the typical 4 nails? Adjust the air pressure ever hour to avoid under or over fastener depth? Did they custom make new flashing or so the typical reuse of what was there before? Did they make sure the air intake in the attic was unblocked or the typical ignoring it resulting in in higher utility costs... Roof wearing out prematurely and voiding the manufacturer warranty. These are just a few examples. BEWARE of people shaming a company for not going through the expense of preparing a quote for people who purchase based on the lowest price and think roofing contractors are a commodity. Excellent companies like Skylight will always get a negative review every now and then. You can't please them all. If you research Skylight, you will see over 90 some percent of the folks that have used them are very pleased and we are one of them.

I would be interested in a screenshot of the email…we have multiple friends that have used Skylight and have always found Brent professional. Wondering about the whole story, especially when a company that is very present in TV, has such a great reputation.

Would love to see a post like Professor Dave's that outlines what people should look for in a quality vs basic roofing job. Maybe a retired roofer? Things like the Professor outlined: new flashing vs reused, 6 nails per tab vs 4, brands of quality shingle, etc.
I would print that out and file it away for the day I need a new roof.
