Yes. You need to affirmatively select iOS 18 update, otherwise you'll stay on iOS 17. (I'm running Beta software, so my updates stopped at 17.2.2, I assume that's what's going on with yours. It could also be that the Servers were busy or you don't have enough memory for iOS 18 or as others have mentioned, you have an older phone that's not compatible.) |

Neither did I...
I wonder how long had it had been since their last update... Ahhh, 3 years... No wonder you had difficulties...

Thanks for the heads-up. This is apparently a serious security issue. Discussed here:
iOS 18.1.1—Update Now Warning Issued To All iPhone Users I have an iphone 14 set for auto updates but it hasn't done it yet so I'll set it up to update tonight. If you have an older iphone that doesn't accept 18.1.1, you can update to 17.7.2 which will have the security patches. In addition to the security patches, 18.1.1 will have some modifications to the photos app and some AI elements added. |

For those unfamiliar with manual updates, go to the Settings app on your iPhone (that the black and grey icon that looks like gears). Touch it to open it.
Go to option for "General." It's about 7-10 items down. Touch it to open it. Go to "Software Update." It's about 2-3 items down. Touch it to open it. Put your thumb on the screen and slide it downward to refresh the page. If it says "iOS is up to date" with a version number, you're golden! If it does not, follow the prompts to verify, download, and install the update. Once your phone does all the things it's going to do, your Lock Screen will come back and you will be back in business. Hope this helps.

Specifically it broke Pandora in Apple Car Play. Now a nightmare to get Pandora to launch. Never understand why they break things that are working just fine.

Because, similar to pharmaceuticals and their frightening list of possible side effects, changing code in one area, often has effects in other areas - often unintended and unexpected, but sometimes complex and lingering.

9 out of 10 times an update conflicts with an existing App, it's because the App's Developers didn't strictly follow Apple Protocols when the App was Developed ... they took short cuts. Occasionally, Apple will do an upgrade that conflicts with their prior protocols, but they notify Developers of existing products, that the change is coming. Some Developers simply ignore that and fail to upgrade their products/Apps, because it's no longer profitable for them. |

I’m not sure if this is your issue….but I believe Apple does not do security patches for any of their phones that are 6 or more years old. iPhone 8s are now being phased out for security patches.
