Our cars are insured, so are our homes. There is a market for owner/visitors like us who need an older car for longer than a week and don't care to give Hertz $1500-2000 to rent a brand new one. This is the same concept of Airbnb vs. hotels.

But first, we need to come down for a month to paint interior, oversee repairs, order furniture. We've owned our house in TV for 7 years. Excellent driving records for both, 2 cars at home in Mass insured by Progressive. No other travel plans, we just need something more than a golf cart. Staying in Duval, there will be the safety of being able to check on your car any time you like. Consider renting your little-used 2nd car to us for the month?
If you do not mind driving to Lorton Virginia, you can take the Amtrak auto train to Sanford, cost should be around $750 for the car and 2 passengers, and then you can fly home. I tend to agree with many of the previous comments regarding liability coverage and the use of Enterprise. You could try calling Enterprise and see if they would have a special rate for a long-term rental. Also, if you only think you will need the vehicle for picking up larger items, both Lowe's and Home Depot rent trucks for around $20 and hour.

Just buy and insure an inexpensive car in Florida, which you can keep in your own garage. Sell it at the end of the month if you wish.

Take the auto train from VA. Gets off in Sanford and one hr drive over. Way to much liability for someone to take on these days.

What do you consider a reasonable price to pay?

I don’t blame you for not wanting to make that drive. I despise long car rides. They are so unhealthy sitting for so long and you always end up eating unhealthy food. They stress me and I feel awful for days after. I’m all for flying, but then again, anything over 30 min is too much for me. Lol

I think it will be very challenging to find someone to rent you their car. Too much at risk.

My suggestion, plan your trips out and rent from enterprise or hertz for 2 or 3 days at a time.
You’ll get a better rate during the week.

If you need something big - uber to lowes/Home Depot, rent their trucks.

Our friends moving down next month from MA used the auto train to cut down on a day's travel while relocating a car permanently to their house in TV. . way too expensive and uncomfortable than just driving down about the same amount of time. two people and car was $1,200. We drive down if staying for a month, we have a car at our disposal, and bring stuff down each time, relocating a bit at a time, as a secondary benefit.. . . it's an easy 2 to 2 1/2 day drive, lots of different routes, listening to 70s and 80s oldies music all day. . . there is the mountain route and the shore route, or the construction route. . all are about +/- 2 hours different in driving time.

Covid is still a non zero risk when flying, many friends have caught it when traveling to conferences and vacations recently. Just means you might lose a few days of work feeling crappy.

The unknown in your question is how long between now and you relocate permanently, and how often will you be flying down to use the house prior to that? Friends on here from MA have purchased a beater car to get around, and just leave the car there, to be disposed when permanently relocated. .

don't overthink it, its really just a blip in the spending to relocate. .

If you can get to Orlando, you can get a month’s rental (SUV is cheapest as of now) for $926 in November through AARP.
Also try autoslash dot com. I’ve gotten good monthly rates through them when renting in Buffalo for the summers.
