Where can I buy a bag of Arrowroot Starch powder for baking? Some Publix stores used to have it and a health food store used to have it, but nobody seems to be able to get it now.

Did you try Fresh Market on route 466? They have a lot of different food items that other stores do not carry.

I bought some, some time ago but can't remember where. I "might" have been Fresh Market as someone else stated. The Publix in the Santa Barbara plaza might have it...or it may have been the one in La Plaza Grande--but think it was the former. Anyway, they have quite an assortment of items for folks cooking/baking gluten free.

Have you tried the health-food stores---Lady Lake one is called Green Apple on 441/27 or the Leesburg one (don't know it's name) also on 441??? The store in La Plaza Grande doesn't have a very good representation of "food items" as the others do. IMHO

It's just cornstarch. I would think any supermarket would have cornstarch in the sugar and flour section.

I saw it at Fresh Market!!! Good for thickening gravy.

It's not the same as cornstarch! If one needs to be gluten-free this is a different option. Much of our processed foods now have gluten in it...I shouldn't say "much" but "all". It's hidden in foods as a "binder".

Arrowroot thickens at a lower temperature then flour or cornstarch. And yes, the lack of gluten in arrowroot flour, can be used for wheat flour in some baking uses.

It is likely that GeoGeo ( the OP)....is truly a skilled Chef.

........sounds like someone is going to make Custards or Puddings or
high-end Pie fillings or Jello or ultra gravy.
The silky "mouthfeel" and glossy see through are perfected only with Arrowroot.

... also use Arrowroot when making Home-made ice cream.....
the silky feel and prevention of ice crystals during storage is the reason.

If you wish to make Mac and Cheese or Beef Stew..Corn Starch is adequate.
