Was looking for recommendations for the Best Pizza located within The Villages.
Yesterday we took takeout from Bravo Pizza located at Lake Sumter. Large cheese pizza was $ 14.50 with each additional topping $3.00.
Would be interested in hearing everyone's recommendation.

Would be interested in hearing everyone's recommendation. The question of what's the best pizza is subjective enough that I'm sure you get a whole range of opinions in response. The best I can do is mention a few of several that we like. Here are two, Papa Johns and Snappy Tomato. We had Snappy Tomato just last night and we like it in part not just because of the taste, but also because we can get a baby sized pizza with 4 small slices for the two of us. As I've indicated these are just two of the places we like getting pizza's from and you're best bet is to pay attention to how people respond. Some will give descriptions of the pizza's they like and that could be the key for your deciding what sounds best for you!

Best Pizza is like your favorite sport team, everyone has one and they are the best. Some swear by deep dish other go for thin crust, if your from NJ, it’s the water that makes great pizza, NY people would agree but not so in Chicago.
When we first move here, Toscani’s Italian Deli & Pizzeria had great pizza, pricey but good then something happen, changed personnel or whatever and is no longer worth the price in our opinion. I guess my point is the best will change in time so try them all and move-on when things change, currently things are good at Flippers for us but times are changing.

NYPD Pizza is by far the best if you are from the NY NJ area. Even if your not from there try it out and I believe you will agree it is the best thin crust Pizza you have had.

Where is NYPD Pizza?
We've been in The Villages for approximately two years now. The best pizza that we had was at Legends Pizza on 441 in Fruitland Park. We had their pizza tonight for the third time and it was AWESOME. I invited the couple across the street to join us today, and they also thought that it was the best pizza they had down here. I would suggest that you give it a try and form your own opinion, but, for me, it's the best.

For lunch today I had the 10 inch Margherita pizza at NYPD. The garlic, olive oil, sauce and cheese were great. I have also had the same pizza at flippers in SS, and it was also great. BTW, the price at NYPD for the 10 inch pie was only 6 dollars and change. I thought it was a very good value.

Funny reading some of the posts they remind me of out west in New Mexico or Arizona. When folks give directions they rarely site the address of a place but tell you its next to or in front of ... Which seem like a small town or Village and a friendly way to help several folks out for locating an address while driving in many cities is almost imposable.

Had Tierra Del Sol for the first time on Sunday and I thought it was very good but next time I would ask to cook it a little longer as the crust was not brown enough for me but lots of cheese which I love and the large is huge...$5.00 bacardi and coke and $3.00 copperridge merlot...not too shabby !!!

Yesterday we took takeout from Bravo Pizza located at Lake Sumter. Large cheese pizza was $ 14.50 with each additional topping $3.00.
Would be interested in hearing everyone's recommendation.
What did you think of Bravo's, other than it's a little expensive?
Generally, you will have a completely different pizza-experience when you eat it right out of the oven, or when you take it home. For example, Giovanni's is acceptable when you eat there but tastes like cardboard when you take it home. We're happy with Bravo's but we often pop it in the oven for 10 minutes if we're taking it out.

Any take-out pizza will get soggy crust by the time it gets home. Putting it in the oven restores some of the crispness to the crust, as well as warming up the topping.

Thanks for the info. about Chicago style pizza close to The Villages for my next trip to TV hopefully in the fall. If Lou Malnati's would open a restaurant in The Villages, they would make a killing. And if you are a pizza lover from the Chicago area, you are probably familiar with Lou Malnati's. Just my 2 cents.

When I get a to-go pizza at Bravo's I have them cook it only half way and not slice it. When I get home I fire up the grill for indirect cooking and throw it on the grill away from the burner. It takes 5 minutes to cook and you can add your own toppings if you want to.

I agree with the assessment that taste in pizza is subjective, very subjective! Being from the NYC suburbs, that's what I look for in a pizza. Bravo was pretty good, but it seems they've lost their touch recently. Had a great pizza at Luigini's in Spanish Springs just last week that was probably the best I've had in Florida. Have yet to try NYPD, but it sounds like I should... soon.

I miss my Augustine's pizza from New Castle,Pa and my Pizza Joe's homestyle pizza.Pizza Joe's did have a shop somewhere down here in Florida but the owner moved back north.
Went to tierra del sol tonight had a terrible experience. The service was bad, the pizza had no taste and was expensive plus we were there two hours since they burnt the first one so bad. Had chicken tenders for appetizer got 6 pieces barley better than mickey d's. The bill was over thirty bucks, never again.

I only like Margherita pizza; ie; san marzano tomato sauce, fresh mozzarella and fresh basil, on a thin crust and well done. For that, Flippers gets a #1 from me. NYPD #2, because their sauce was too sweet for my liking. Most pizza here in Fl. tops their Margherita pizza with raw tomato and that to me is not goo. Pizza is a matter of what we grew up with.....I can remember eating a thick crust with just sauce and grated cheese called
:kiss::kiss: A'Pizz.

Pi on the Square in Ocala has the best pizza in the area, and an equally great selection of microbrew beers. Pi on Broadway - Where great beer and great food are a way of life.Pi on Broadway (http://www.pionbroadway.com/)
However, if you're ever in New York City, Mezza Luna on Arthur Ave in the Bronx has even better pizza, IMHO.
As others have said, pizza is highly subjective. In TV, we think Bravo's is far superior to NYPD Pizza and Giovanni's.

My vote is for Flippers in Spanish Springs. They use all fresh ingredients and make their dough there fresh every day. Hello, Look at my recent posting in the " Restaurant " section of TOTV regarding NYPD Pizza. I have to say it was my honest opinion of the Pizza. They ( NYPD) Claim and Advertise as a " Taste Of New York " is really a Joke.
You I am certain you will try what they offer, however the overall opinions agreed with me, they serve nothing more than ordinary, run of the mill pizza that is very bland, skimpy toppings, and Boring. It is a typical franchise establishment that serves exactly what the measurements call for. I would make a pretty good guess that all of the ingredients for the toppings are shipped in from a central distribution point.
The annoying part of NYPD is that they advertise as a " Taste of New York " when in fact they are no different then any other chain such as Pizza Hut, Papa Johns etc. only much much smaller. Their pizza reminds me of pizza that is available in every airline terminal...Period ...
What one reply did mention is this: Their is a decent Chinese Take a Way near by, so all is not lost. My next stop for pizza is Flippers @ Spanish Springs.. Bravo @ Sumter Landing is fair with kind of a zing to it. Other than that make your own.
One last comment I find it really odd that all of a sudden NYPD is getting a thumbs up....hmmmm Hanky Panky ???

Wow interesting choices for pizza! Pizza is definitely a matter of taste and preference!
I lived in and around Chicago all my life till moving here 12 years ago. No pizza around here has come close to what I am used to. Tried Belleview Pizza and thought it was pretty good, not great. Flippers gets a thumbs up for a nice thin crust and very fresh ingredients. Did not like Bravo especially for their price. Never liked Paulies never understood what people raved about. Toscanis is ok. Haven't tried NYPD Pizza , Giovannis is ok. Will give Legends a try. My very favorite that we discovered too late a they sold a year later was Phils in Belleview awesome food and pizza for Florida anyway. LOL Unfortunately I have found some frozen pizzas as good as any around here for 1/4 the price LOL Very sad. My favorite in Chicago was Gino's East and a place on Archer Ave called Chessdans Pizza (not sure of that spelling been a few years) but then it was hard to find a bad pizza in Chicago Some of the Mom and Pop ones were the very best like Alex and Aldo's in LaGrange Park. Best Pizza Up-Date: I ordered from Flipper's a large pizza on Saturday 10/12/13 for take out here is the result.
1) Large Pizza combination of hot/mild sausage, pepperoni, cost $ 22.32 it came with cheese. Excellent and the ingredients were fresh.
So in my humble Pizza ratings are.
1) Flipper's Spanish Springs Town Square..Excellent, and will go back to try something different.
2) Bravo Sumter Landing.. Good, $$ is comparable to Flipper's, spicy, good crust, not bad.
0) NYPD CR 466 Yes ZERO not a typo. They should be arrested for claiming to be "A Taste of New York " .

Back home where we're from they make linguica pizza which is a very tasty topping to a pizza........here in The Villages I understand that City Fire offers a chourico pizza. Has anyone tried it?.......comments?

We love the pizza at Tierra Del Sol. It's only available by takeout or in the grill room - not in the restaurant. And it comes with a free custard filled pastry.

Two Choices:
1) Flippers.....Spanish Springs Town Square
2) Bravos......Lake Sumter Landing
Honestly they really are your only choices, both have seating and pricing is pretty much the same at each place. All the rest of them are a roll of the dice, read the comments and take heed, if you choose other than the above two....Bring Your Rabbits Foot.

We love Giovanni's on 466. Always get a great piazza with lots of toppings. We used to get takeout from Bravo's but has been very disappointing lately.

Agree, NYPD is very good. In fact all the food there is good, not just the pizza.

I have and it is very good (assuming you like flatbread pizzas). It had other meats on it as well. Not the same flavor as linguica but tasty still.

We love the pizza at Tierra Del Sol. It's only available by takeout or in the grill room - not in the restaurant. And it comes with a free custard filled pastry. It can also be picked up and delivered through Villages Restaurant Dining Delivery (http://www.village-grocery-delivery.com/restaurant-dining-delivery/) (352) 751-0310 on weekdays. You'd need to place your order through the delivery service and not directly with Tierra Del Sol. More information available at their website - link shown above.

It really is amusing to me on how much individual taste vary with Italian food (Pizza) in this case. To say that or recommend some of the places to go for acceptable pizza is mind boggling. So with that in mind all I have to say is " Learn The Hard Way " or the easy way and go with my recommendations. That way you can leave your " Rabbit " at home.

I think I never could answer that basic question because I think everybody has an own special taste in case of a good pizza. Thin or thick crust, topping??? I would recommend going to each pizzeria around TV and test it for yourself.

Seriously, it's surprises me this hasn't been mentioned yet in a TOTV posting, but the Snappy Tomato is now Mario's. They had an ad in the November 'Paper Net' issue that was inserted in the Sun. This prompted us to have a pizza delivered from them for dinner and I have to say that in my opinion it was very good. Had it light on sauce and cheese with mushrooms and sausage added. Two guesses where we're ordering pizza from next time? First guess doesn't count! :clap2:

seriously!!!!!
There's no better pizza in the villages than what can be eaten @ Giavianni's located at Southern Trace, like it crispy? you got it, like less cheese ? no problem. Definitely not your mass produced pizza.
Try it, you'll like it.
When we visited I had pizza at Red Sauce and it was delicious.

We had a pepperoni pizza there recently and LOVED it. It was gooey yummy. We used to order our pizzas "wet" and that's how this one was. It was earlier this month and I thought it was still the Snappy Tomato. I didn't note the name change.

He beef stroganoff -child size portion noodles and salad with ice tea for $32.00. SO NOT WORTH HALF THAT. sorry. I digress. Takis is great pizza.

Best pizza in The Villages - without a doubt, Mallory Hill Country Club.
Worst pizza - Hungry Howie's in Wildwood (now that CiCi's is gone). Before CiCi's was gone, it was a tie between them and Hungry Howie's for WORST.

We were talk'n to the bartender at Mallory, and he said the pizza's come in frozen, or already prepared, and if you want extra cheese or extra pepperoni, they just add it

There still is no good pizza in or near The Villages. I have given up the search, and will only eat pizza when I go north to the Philadelphia area. And that goes for Philadelphia Cheese-steaks also.

I've seen them make them. I've gotten pizza' half pepperoni and half sausage. Do they take the frozen stuff off one side and then put on the other
topping ?

If you have been to Mallory Hill CC to talk to the bartender, you would have walked past the pizza station. They have the preparers tossing the dough, putting on the sauce, toppings, and cheese, and sliding them into the pizza oven. The pizza station is directly to the left of the front door at the restaurant.
Maybe the dough comes in frozen and has to be thawed and then is hand-tossed but the pizzas are individually prepared to order. Excellent tasting!

Just a word of caution about Flippers. We used to enjoy their pizza and great service but recently we were there and there were few tables occupied with no one waiting (at 6 pm). It took 1 hour 20 minutes to get our pizzas (there were 4 of us and we ordered 2 pizzas). We were told that our pizza burned (?). Four tables sat down after us and were served before us. We had been served so much soda that we were about to float. The manager never approached our table or even made eye contact. When we finally got our pizza, one was cold, one was hot. When the check came, we had been given a 25% discount. We weren't looking for a discount but we were looking for hot pizza in less than 1 hour 20 minutes. They got 3 strikes in one evening......we will stick to Bravo, Mallory or Giovanni's.
