Bummer, but not unexpected. Still a great deal relative to cable TV. As more and more people cut the cord, the burden of paying the content producers will continue to shift from cable subscribers to streamers.

We had Hulu live + about 82.95 + tax & fees about $92. We canceled went to YouTube. Now they're the same price. Guess back to Hulu live + until they raise their price.again. They are great for sports lovers they have ESPN +, I can watch my hockey team.
I also like that I can delete a program I recorded.

I believe the Hulu price also includes Disney+ which has some good shows.
NFL Sunday Ticket required YouTube TV last year. That might have changed this year but we just kept the entire package. Might look into HuluLive w/Disney and a standalone Sunday Ticket next year.

I think you could buy the NFL Sunday ticket and watch it through the free version of YouTube and didn't need to pay for YouTubeTV.

Hubby wants golf channel and weather channel. Other than that, he mostly watches network news and sitcom reruns and streams old movies on channels that have ads. He can get everything besides golf and weather with Roku TV, which is free. So we're paying $90/month just so he can see golf channel and weather channel.
I watch Netflix and Amazon Prime Video, so I don't care what's on the TV in the other room. Gonna check Sling and see what they've got for less.

Alphabet is the parent company. Google is a subsidiary. YouTube is also a subsidiary, as are Waze, Fitbit, and Nest.
I just noticed that SlingTV streams most shows in standard definition, and you have to pay $20/month more for HD. That would bring the cost up to what I'm already paying for YouTubeTV, if I want to keep the Weather and Golf Channels (using the Blue plan with sports-plus and Frndly services).
Or I can pay the same as the above, for Hulu+Live, which comes with HD streaming AND it comes with Hulu, which we don't have and I'd love to watch from time to time but don't want to pay extra for it.
AND SO - I'll recommend to hubby that we get the Hulu+Live.

We're still on DirecTV sat. Been on it since 1997. I know I pay more but I like the convenience. May go to streaming at some point but we're happy for now.
Expect streaming rates to continue to rise. Many of the companies are struggling to make a profit due to the cost of programming. The days of cheap streaming are slowly going away.

There is a reason for both of those. Check this discussion from Apollo TV (https://iptvapollogroup.com/apollo-tv-2/)on whether this type of service is legal.
You can also look back at this Omnivision thread from July (https://www.talkofthevillages.com/forums/talk-television-338/omni-vision-351531/?highlight=omnivision) that you created. You felt they were too good to be true then also.

I love YTTV but am thinking of canceling. I have Peacock, Hulu and Paramount plus... so I can watch all the network shows on them. I'm really just paying to watch live TV, and that's mostly Orlando news at 6pm and ABC news at 6:30 and Jeopardy. Might be time to get an antenna and Tablo to record local shows.

Everyone’s situation is unique to them but I chuckle to see some people squawk at paying $80-$100 a month for their TV programming but they don’t hesitate to pay someone $60-$80 a month to mow their little patch of lawn that they could do themselves in a few minutes or pay $150-$300 a month for pool service which they could do themselves in a few hours per week or pay $150+ month to someone to spray for bugs a couple times per year which they could easily do themselves in a few minutes per month. I guess everyone has their own priorities but it’ seems to be an easy numbers game and personally my own maintenance is superior to any I’ve seen done at my neighbors.

I believe this is apples and oranges.
YouTubeTV carries live broadcasts which include commercials. There is no way to skip the commercials since they are part of the broadcast itself. You should be able to skip them if you DVR the show and watch it later, just as you would with an old fashioned VHS.
HuluLive carries live broadcasts but also has a library of old shows and Hulu exclusives. These non-broadcast shows are available with commercials for about the same price as YouTubeTV or commercial-free at $95.
YouTubeTV can also show videos from YouTube. To get those commercial free you would need to purchase YouTube Premium (I don't know the price).
HuluLive includes DIsney+ and ESPN+, both with commercials, in the $82 price. You can pay extra to get those without commercials as well. I don't know if the $95 price is commercial free for all or if that's just the Hulu content and other charges apply for the Disney+ and ESPN+ content.

So, I just got off the phone with YouTubeTV customer service. Wanted to find out if I cancelled today, would it shut off today, or would it stay on until the end of the billing cycle.
The guy incentivized me to keep my service at the same price I'm paying now, for the next 6 months. No contract. So at the end of 6 months, I can still cancel and switch to Hulu if I want. It's a great idea, because often when one goes up, all the others do too. Right now Hulu is the same price that YouTubeTV WILL be effective the next billing cycle.
If you really prefer YouTubeTV, but the price increase is a deal breaker, give them a call. Be polite. Ask them a question /about/ cancelling, and see if they offer you the promo as well. If they do, you get to keep what you like for at least another 6 months. If not, they'll help you cancel (effective your next billing cycle). Wait time on the phone was less than a minute.

As I mentioned many times, YouTube like other providers whom provide TV content always have franchise fees to pay to the content providers. If you read the fine print in their price increase announcement they specifically say one of the reasons why the price had to to be increased is because of the rising cost of content. Cable prividers have the same issues. Just the way it is.

YouTubeTV's ad revenue increased by almost 2Billion this year, from 5.7B to 7.5B. Their operating costs are only around $200 million. "Just the way it is" is correct. But the thing that's just the way it is, isn't the thing you think it is.

Going up just like everything else. If I keep it I will just get rid of something else to make up the difference. I had fubo before and didn’t like it much. Plus YouTube TV has Sunday ticket but this will be my last year with it since the nfl has started with putting games on other platforms. I’m it willing to pay for all of those. Soon games will no longer be on cbs and fox and or the Super Bowl will be played on some streaming platform.
It stinks but YoutubeTV (+NFL Sunday Ticket) is the best option out there - a fraction of what we were paying with XFinity.

I look at streaming services every year and a couple years ago, dropped Dish and went to YT tv. YT tv didn’t have all the channels that we liked so we ended up with YT tv, paramount+, Netflix, shudder, Apple TV+, and a couple others I can’t think of. So if I wanted to watch a specific series, I would have to get out of YT tv and then remember which service had this series. We were bouncing around all over the place. After a year, I negotiated with Dish and they matched the price of what I was paying for all the services and it’s a set price for 3 years plus I got a $500 gift card so the overall price is cheaper.
I didn’t care what I was paying a month, it was just a hassle of switching services to watch something. Plus, if I wanted to bounce around for example, watching Fox business to a specific sporting event, I hit the recall button. Since we have used Dsh for decades, we remember the channel numbers so it’s easy and fast to get around.
Maybe in a couple years YT tv will have the majority of what we like to watch and I can switch.

Let’s put this into perspective. It’s going to cost about the same for a one month subscription to watch and record unlimited TV at both of our homes as it will after taxes for a Villages resident to play one 18 hole round of golf at Palmer starting January 1st. Looking at it that way, the monthly subscription seems rather reasonable!

We pay $85 per month for DirectTv. Three tvs, dvr, all the regular broadcast channels plus hundreds more, search function allows us to watch many past tv show episodes or movies etc free on demand, can record episodes or an entire series of a show, we get all the news channels, many sports channels, music channels, and a lot more than we can watch; can watch many recent movies for a fee (similar to Prime). Customer service is a ph call away although we almost never need to call. We've had it for years and get many recurring loyalty etc discounts; it works fine for us. It is auto charged and paid through our CenturyLink Internet service, high speed, which is $45 per month; so $128 for the two services.

I still have dish. It's about $90 a month. Are the other options better?
Since you pay a similar price, whether other options are better is personal preference.
What would make another option better? Maybe a channel you cannot find, an old show that is not available with Dish's On-Demand, a movie that's only available on Prime or Peacock, hockey games from your favorite hockey team across the country, or four NFL games at a time. If you want those but cannot get them with Dish then that might make the other service better.
If I am traveling I can watch my channels wherever I can get a sufficient internet connection. I know DirectTV had a streaming app and I suspect Dish does too.
For me, quality of the signal varies from service to service. If I remember correctly, the video quality of most channels on Dish was very good though occasionally there might be an issue.
If you were paying two or three times as much for the same programming, like some are reporting for cable TV, then streaming would be better. If you are paying nearly the same amount and are happy with the channels you have then maybe there is nothing better.

You can get an antenna. A few months of not paying disk will pay for the antenna & installation.
Lots of free channels like local news & weather, numerus US and some international channels. You can add plex. tv (http://Plex.tv) for free streaming and will have more than you can ever watch.
I recommend ZapperBox M1 - ATSC 3.0, 4K, HDR, and Dolby(R) AC-4 Tuner (https://zapperbox.com/) for an execulent DVR. It supports the current ATSC 1.0 and newer ATSC 3.0 tv standards including encryption. It will soon support multiple TVs over your local home network.

You can watch the Miss Universe pageant live, you can access one of the Reuters channels (some of them are subscription only), ABC and NBC live, Cheddar News, Live sports coverage (nothing "local"), Lifetime and Hallmark movies, Every possible syndicated rerun that's ever been broadcast since the 1950s...
Scores of movies (many obscure), AccuWeather, Cooking shows, This Old House...
All free. Plus you can "add on" options like Cinemax and HBO/MAX, Showtime, and Starz for an extra fee.

There is a similar service called OMNIVision which provides the exact same service.
Apollo TV, like many similar services, operates in a legal gray area or outright violates copyright laws by providing access to copyrighted content without authorization. Whether an end user can be fined or punished for subscribing to such a service depends on several factors, including local laws, enforcement practices, and the extent of the user’s involvement. Here's a breakdown:
1. Legal Status of Apollo TV
If Apollo TV streams copyrighted content without proper licenses, the service itself is likely violating copyright laws. In many jurisdictions, offering such a service is illegal.
2. Legal Risks for End Users
The extent of liability for end users depends on their country and how the law views streaming or downloading unauthorized content:
In the United States:
End users typically face less risk for simply streaming unauthorized content, as U.S. copyright law targets those who distribute or host the material. However, downloading or redistributing content could increase legal liability.
Subscription to such a service may also expose the user to investigation if the service is explicitly tied to illegal activities.
Last year an Omnivision rep was giving a sales presentation at Brownwood. The industry knows about it but doesn't do a damn thing about it.
Technically speaking, if you record the illegal content then you can be held civilly liable.
But there is almost a zero percent chance that will ever happen.

But there is almost a zero percent chance that will ever happen.
I vaguely recall one story that came out in some investigative journalism about this topic a few years ago. It involved someone who /was/ prosecuted for copying illegal content from a "grey area" provider of illegal content (aka Warez). Anyone who owns the copyright to content OR gets paid residuals when content is used (actors, directors, etc) - has the right to press charges when they discover someone is using it without them getting their percentage for the work THEY created.
And - there absolutely have been customers of some of these shady businesses that have been cut off from their service, with zero recourse even after they've paid for a year of service in advance (that was a thing for awhile).
