With all the concern over homeowners insurance I wanted to see if anyone has used Loggerhead Insurance and what the experience has been. Positive or negative.
I called Villages Insurance who has handled my coverages for years and they said they would call me back at the end of October. Seriously???????

I have travelers through the villages. Got my new premium notice and it actually went down $70.00 to $1130.00. I have an 1150 sq ft ranch. New furnace 2019 and roof 2020. Have 2% hurricane coverage and 10% sink hole.

AM Best is the premier rating agency. Loggerhead has no rating from AM Best.

If you have a financial advisor, they should have access to AM Best, a company that rates insurance carriers, then you can check through your advisor. IMHO, I would tend to be wary of a new company.

They don't handle claims. They are primarily brokers for multiple carriers who actually insure their clients and handle claims.

While I do currently have a roof damage claim in the works with $500 deductiable, my insurance company just send me a notification that my new deductiable for hurricane damage will be 2% of house value or for me around $8,000. I would like to have my whole roof replaced as it has a lot of huricane damage. A new roof might save both of use some money in the future. Several years ago, I paid for the roof repair as the damage from that huricane was not as extensive as this new damage. I don't trust the build quality of this roof on the house that I purchased new in 2014.

Slide is to Farmers as Loggerhead is to Progressive, offering to insure customers who got dumped by the big national insurer. Slide sent us a renewal quote that is about 150% above our current Farmers premium. They are also rated by Demotech, but not AM best. I am very familiar with AM Best, but not Demotech. It reminds me of before the housing market crash, when issuers of securities backed by subprime mortgages would ratings shop between Moody’s, Standard and Poor’s, and Fitch. We all learned how that turned out! Our insurance agent (Formerly a Farmers agent) instructed us to run away from Slide.

That lack of service is exactly why I and many have left The Villages Insurance.
Moved to a different insurance broker and they operate like true professionals.

My auto/umbrella underwriter - Connect by Amfam through Costco - requires my homeowners insurance underwriter to be AM Best A or they will not write the umbrella policy. Something to consider or ask about.

Looked up our home insurance at Progressive online and notice the note : non renewal on 5/13/2025

Ok, now I have 6 months to get a new insurer lined up! If your insurance expires next year, go on line / call and find out about your renewal status now!

Ours expires at midnight November 30th of this year and won’t be renewed by Farmers. After an exhaustive search for a new provider, the best I could do is a policy with Tower Hill that has a premium increase of 67%, and that’s with a brand new roof and HVAC system. Ouch!

Most, if not all, of their clients will report claim directly to the agent. That is part of the agents work

At least it's not a last minute surprise, which means I am not going to panic, but have time to shop around. . . my post was about not getting a last minute surprise, if one doesn't do well with last minute surprises.

as far as whose doesn't, i am thinking the insurance companies which aren't leaving? maybe?

Not correct. All the major carriers have toll free numbers to directly report claims.

I guess you can always call the worthless Villages Insurance brokers to have them forward your call to the actual insurer.

They are required by law to mail you a non renewal notice at least 3 months before your current policy expires. Look at the positive, your time frame for finding a new policy doesn’t coincide with hurricane season. I recently had all quotes for a new policy pulled during Helene and Milton as companies wouldn’t give out binding quotes during/after the storms. When they finally gave out binding quotes again, prices were up over 20% from about a month earlier. It was a very time consuming and stressful process finding a new insurer after getting dumped by Farmers. The Florida homeowners insurance market is terribly broken with no easy fix in sight.

That lack of service is exactly why I and many have left The Villages Insurance.
Moved to a different insurance broker and they operate like true professionals.

I have several neighbors that have Progressive. Some were renewed and some were canceled. I spoke with a Villages Insurance agent and was told the following:
If you are a full-time resident, such as myself, your policy will be renewed with Progressive. If you are here only part of the year, Progressive will cancel you. Also, Progressive will only write new policies if you are a full-time resident. Apparently, more damage can happen when the owner is not residing in the home such as is the case with snowbirds. I checked with my neighbors and it appears that only the part-timers were, indeed, cancelled.
On another note, my Progressive HO policy went up over 30%. I switched to Kin with identical coverage and the increase was 8%. Also, The Villages Insurance was using Foremost for my two golf carts at $340 per year. I called Progressive directly and now the premium for both carts is a total of $135. I asked The Villages Insurance agent if they review the policy costs on a yearly basis and was told they do not have the manpower to do it. In other words, they just send out the new policy and hope you pay it.
Needless to say, I dumped them. Spend some time online or directly call the insurance companies and save big bucks! Or, try another independent broker that is willing to do the hard work and earn your business.

Was in the business and you are correct about toll free numbers. Agents can be very helpful if you have a claim and should be in the loop.
