I know you didn't mention it, but I don't think you can charge money for the drinks.

I know that the caterers have supplied the bartender at parties that I have been involved with. I guess that I am a little surprised that they would be supplying the alcohol and not the server that the rec center requires.

The rec centers require a specific server? I have never seen that happen. Who would that be? At most rec center events, people bring their own alcohol. I attended one event where they put cups of wine on a table and people could serve themselves.

There's no licensing for bartenders in Florida.
Some places require that you complete a licensing certificate course as a condition of employment, but the license itself isn't a thing in this state.

Florida does have a lot of licenses and also believe that there is no such thing as a licensed bartender. Licensed or not they do need to make sure that person(s) do not get too drunk as Dram Shop Laws might apply

IMO alcohol shouldn’t be allowed in rec centers. Enough drunks on street as it is. But, not worry I won’t be taking over.:evil6: too bad I could fix all the problems in about 6 months.:1rotfl:

IMHO, I would double check on your plans, I have never seen the type arrangement you are planning at a rec center, BYBO yes, booze on tap never.

Hmm no idea on a bartender. But I was told alcohol wasn’t generally allowed in the rec center unless you follow their rules (I couldn’t find the rules). When we went to an event the booze had to be hidden in people’s water bottles. Same as they do in the squares. I’m curious what the actual rules are.

I've been to many events at our regional rec center where alcohol was consumed (BYOB)... Nothing needed to be hidden...

when you book the room at the rec center they will tell you the names of company that will bartend for you. We had a large party and did exactly that at Everglades, it was perfect!

If one reads post #11 one can go to the guidelines for specific rules. One does not have to guess, or give incorrect information

Recently we attended an annual realtor thank you dinner at Pimlico. There was a bar and bar tender from a local country club. I’m sure it was all done according to the guidelines.

It’s BYOB …. Alcohol is definitely allowed .
You need to dump your source(s) and find another source for correct information…..

After reading the rules, they don't really specify any rules, only that you have to get authorization. If not authorized, it's not allowed. However, while the rules don't specifically say BYOB is allowed, it definitely is implied in the second part of my post below...
The possession, consumption or sale of alcoholic beverages is prohibited on all
District owned and operated property and within District owned and operated
facilities, except as specifically authorized by written agreement between the District
and the requestor for use of District owned or operated facility.
If service of alcoholic beverages is authorized, the Applicant agrees to fully comply
with all state and local laws and ordinances concerning the service of such
beverages.
BYOB part...
4.) Alcohol Beverages/Liquor License
The sale of alcoholic beverages at an event is prohibited. One or more person(s) cannot purchase
alcoholic beverages to be sold at the event.
No alcoholic beverages are permitted to be served, consumed, or sold on the premises except as
specifically authorized by agreement between the District and the Applicant for use of the
premises. Individuals may not sell alcoholic beverages, nor may they be distributed at the event
for group consumption, without proper Florida Liquor License. If service of alcoholic beverages
is authorized, the Applicant agrees to fully comply with all state and local laws and ordinances
concerning the service of such beverages.
BYOB is defined as alcoholic beverages for personal consumption and use. Individuals may
not sell alcoholic beverages, nor may they be distributed at the event for group
consumption. Kegs are prohibited, as BYOB.

BYOB is allowed. But if you are supplying alcohol to serve to the group, a bartender is required. Putting cups on the table and serving yourself would fall outside of the rec department rules, assuming that the wine was supplied by one person.

Note that the facility guidelines apply to people who reserve or rent a room for an event. But, on a typical day, any individual visiting a rec center can bring and consume alcohol without any prior authorization, as long as you don't sell it.

Rec centers typically do not allow sharing of alcohol. Rentals fall under different rules. Check with the rec centers. Many caterers offer bartending services. The more popular caterers will know what is allowed also.

I have been to several parties in Rec centers where bartenders were hired. At Savannah Center, my Villages Real Estate salesman used to have a party every year for all his clients, with any drink you wanted.

Based on this part of the rules, I think that is the 'licensed' the OP was referring to. It would seem they either are already authorized or know what will be required to be authorized. This part of the rules would also explain the post about events with a bartender from one of the Country Clubs, because if the service was provided by the CC, they would hold the valid Florida liquor license. I don't think the OP will find an independent bartender who will fit the bill.

I have used Pam Greer in the past. She is licensed and insured and did a great job for me at a birthday party held at Laurel Manor. She worked with me to help me determine how much alcohol I should purchase. Give her a call, 352-239-2862 or email: pgreer1954@gmail.com. She is very responsive.

There's no licensing for bartenders in Florida.
Some places require that you complete a licensing certificate course as a condition of employment, but the license itself isn't a thing in this state.
So you’re saying I didn’t waste all those years at Faber College!

By reading the first 2 posts, it may not be a thing, but one can be certified and licensed in Florida. May not be as prominent in TV, but in high end restaurants with extensive bar service it is definitely a bonus on your application. Some offer in-house classes, then certification is required within a time period.
