How do you all clean your oven racks?

The wire racks I do not have to clean but if I did I would use a steel wool paid and wash in the sink.
Sheets on the bottom of the oven get cleaned as above by hand. Maybe once a year.

My father-in-law used to put the racks in a garbage bag, add a cup of ammonia, and close up the bag. He did this outside and left the bag outside overnight. It loosened everything up and made it easy to wipe.

We have used silicon oven rack covers for years catches over spills. Top rack, bottom rack and floor of oven originally purchased on QVC 20 ft roll cut to fit Amazon has these.

It became a fun game, when we noticed the brand new oven smell in homes over 10 years old. So we started keeping a running log. Yes they were the original ovens,

As we looked south of 466 and A, ovens while extremely clean had been used occasionally. Guessing for holiday company.

We have close friends who, have never used their oven, eating out daily. We don’t have that option, out gut response isn’t worth the high sodium, additives and preservatives.

We may eat out one meal a week usually lunch, but then one of us pays drastically for that 30 minutes of not cooking

That's definitely the old time tested way to do it, my mother and grand mothers (both) always used that. I find my self cleaning oven reduces the encrusted materials to such a fine powder, I just take them out after they completely cool and the oven "unlocks", and the dust residue left is so fine it can be quickly brushed off as if it was talcum powder . If no self clean feature, ? Then the ammonia process definitely works... OUTSIDE !

I take the racks and place them in a garbage bag outside. Spray them with oven cleaner and let them sit overnight. Clean the next day with a Brillo pad. Easy work.

If needed I first remove the top rack of my dish wash this permits me to put in two oven racks which is my initial step, when they come out, I give them a scrubbing. I also use the silicone rack protectors that has mostly eliminated the first step.

Best way. Fill up the utility sink with water. Add some Dawn let them sit at least 24 hours. Clean with scotchbrite will come right off. Turn them over and do the same thing the next night

why bother? let them ride until whenever then worry about it, aside from another buyer wouldn't even care (at least I don't) or go the rack cover stuff which will alter your cooking especially in convections

Self cleaning ovens work well for the oven, but not for the racks. Before trying this check your oven manual (available on line if you don't have it). Most instruct to remove the racks prior to cleaning. I ruined the racks in an expensive oven by keeping them in during the self cleaning cycle. They changed color but also no longer slid easily. Open your windows to vent the house also.

Your choice, but if you Google search "self clean oven life," you will find lots of reading material, from Consumer Reports / The Family Handyman / Southern Living / Fix Appliances CA, and on & on. Good Luck, but I learned something from your post: Ammonia soak overnight. Thanks. ;-)

Layer your oven racks with dryer sheets in your bathtub underneath the oven racks.
Cover the racks in hot water and add about 1/4 cup of Dawn.
Let the racks sit in the tub overnight.
The baked-on stuff should rinse off.

Then you can take your shower!

We used to spray the oven racks with Easy Off oven cleaner. Then place them in a garbage bag overnight.

My wife found mega-size cookie sheets from Wilton. We place them under everything we bake. No messy racks...ever
