They should close the place down, because they're the worst managed restaurant in TV.

The last time I was there, they said they no longer serve spinach knishes. Only the potato. That's a shame as well. But I still love the place and we'll still be patroms.

I agree too jays at Lake Sumter Landing used to be one of my favorite restaurants. The restaurant has been sold. There are all new employees there and new major company owns them. The menu has changed and the place has gone downhill. I will not be eating there anymore either.

Calves liver, bacon, fried onions and cabbage with a thick onion gravy, would be my 'last meal' request!

Whenever I see a restaurant billed as “NY style”, it usually means it's overpriced, overrated, over-hyped, and it under-delivers.

Too Jays quality has been tapering off for the last several years. We haven’t been there for more than a year. If it recently sold, the owners were smart to say goodbye.

I felt the same way about Ruby Tuesday's a few years ago when they stopped serving bison burgers.

I mentioned to the waitress that it was my favorite meal there and she said, "Yes, they were very popular".

Dropping popular items is usually a great way to run a restaurant. Into the buffers!

Sounds great, like the stuff I enjoyed as a young buck up on the "tundra" of northern Minnesota. Sans cabbage, though.

We have always had excellent experiences at the Toojays in Brownwood. The manager there is friendly and attentive, as is the wait staff. Great place to go after an early round of golf for a late breakfast.

My mother used to make the best liver and onions with bacon, and we would have it about once a week. Fast forward to adulthood...my wife hates the stuff. She won't eat it, won't cook it, and doesn't want me cooking it either. She hates the smell of it. I have yet to find a restaurant that makes it the way mom did. If I close my eyes and think real hard, I can still feature the smell of my mother cooking as I walk into the house after playing baseball with my friends. That could almost bring tears to my eyes!

Toojays emerged from Chapter 11 bankruptcy with new owners in September 2020.
Since it failed to make money in it's previous "life" things had to change - it's a business practice to continuously look at items that don't sell well or a have a low profit margin to change as customer's tastes change or costs increase.

As for not being well run it's almost always a personnel thing. What food service business today doesn't have a problem in this areas?

If you don't like the restaurant you have so many other choices.

Liver is one of the most nutritional foods you can eat, as are most offal's

Nothing wrong with onions either.
Bacon? In moderation, never killed anyone

Is it still legal to serve that monstrosity of a meal? I always thought it bordered child abused when I had to eat it as a kid. The organ in question filters the blood removing the poisons and impurities in your body…hmmm. Not my first choice for fine dining.

Do they serve that with an extra helping of bile?

WebMD and MayoClinic are my trusted sourced for medical information. Here is what I found:

Beef liver is one the most nutrient rich foods on the planet, However, it is also very high in cholesterol and has a higher-than-normal risk of interaction with medications.

I agree with some of the others. Yuck. I hated when my mom made it. Peanut butter and jelly for me.

You obviously never ate at a NY Deli or Italian Restaurant. The local restaurant in question has the worst Pastrami I ever had. The fat is so chewy you almost choke on it.

Impossible to get a corned beef or pastrami on rye that is anything like NY (IE Katz)

I do like Bison Burgers but waitress comment was probably anecdotal and/or they cut into sales of regular hamburgers which are very close in taste.

TooJays in Brownwood has gotten really dirty over the last few months. I know they have had some serious staffing issues, but if they can’t even clean the dining room floor I don’t want to think how bad it is in the kitchen areas.

There will be plenty of chatter on here...LOL...those who hate it, those who love it, under the new owners/management. It will settle nothing except as a "let off steam" value for some people. But the one fact is, IF enough people love it, it will stay open, and if enough people join the "hate posters", then it will eventually close ! Basic economics even kids with a lemonade stand can understand..LOL !
