What do you do about hundreds of millipedes after rains or sprinklers?

Starting a month or two ago after the heavy rains, millipedes were crawling up the vinyl siding on my villa and getting into the house easily. Is there a company you use or have you had any luck using things like diatomaceous earth to get rid of them? And where are they finding holes to get into the house...I presume its at the base of the waterproof barrier that is under the vinyl siding.

final note: I had home inspectors and other experts say there is no treatment for them and they fit in the tiniest of holes. They tend to be seasonal in new construction and mainly crawling around the driveway and backyard. But few get inside actually. I'll contact Massey or another company for more treatment options because I've tried everything except Diatomaceous earth so far to keep them away from the house.

I would be more concerned with how they are getting into your house than they bring there. Birds etc will love them if they can't get inside and hide.

I would look for a home inspector maybe? I think a good one is named Acosta? The house should be sealed (except for intentional vents.)

I am assuming you have a contract with one of the "bug" companies (we have Massey). Call them and let them deal with it, this is why you have a contract!

Google (research) the little Basterds. We had them when we moved in in 2019. They were really bad, and yes in the house. Articles on the internet say they are immune to almost everything. They've been around since before Jesus, and NO nothing eats them. After a period of time, it did get better. I used to get up in the morning and go around vacuuming them up.
Some people say they come in the new sod, I have no idea, but now I only see them on the driveway occasionally.
I know this is not what you want to hear, but do your home work before you believe someone who has something to sell to you.

:faint: i would simply freak out if i saw that, & would consider staying in a hotel until it was rectified, lol. those things scare the beejeezuz out of me, & wouldn't feel safe unless i saw them coming in with blowtorches & rifles.

Do you mean a house centipede? The things that look like 1-inch super skinny worms with long spiky hair sticking out the sides? If so, they're actually "good" pests, as they kill cockroaches, termites, and flies. They're also creepy looking and I hate them in the house. Those hairs aren't hairs. They're around 15 pairs of legs.

Diatomaceous earth will definitely kill them. It'll kill ants too. But then you'd have a bunch of dead centipedes all over the house.

Best to shoo them outside if you can, or smush them if you dare.

I have had a lot of millipedes for several months and many get into the house (new construction in 2021). I have had Dean’s out a couple of times. Their pest guy, who seems knowledgeable, said no treatment will eliminate them. Each time he came (about one month apart), he applied a granular treatment to the exterior around the house perimeter and then put sticky paper traps inside the house. The granular treatment (not Amdro) was to reduce the millipedes, not eliminate them. He essentially said, they will eventually move to somewhere else. The sticky traps get almost all of them inside the house and I rarely need to sweep up any dead ones.

They seem to come inside about once a year and no treatment will get rid of them so grin and bear it.

Had them with new construction but after a season they went away. We did nothing with insecticides, they simply moved on or whatever.

If you're vacuuming live bugs, I'm sure they can find their way out of the machine. I throw the vacuum bag out of the house when I have to do that procedure.

I had the same problem at one time. It started after I had brick work done around the garden areas
. Water collected after heavy rains and the bugs began to march... right into the house. I extended all the gutters over the brickwork and the problem disappeared.

Get some Triazicide from lowes. That’s what I use. It kills over 260 insects.

Don’t know about millipedes but we had a problem with worm’s getting into our patio. I used cheap table salt and sprinkled it around the foundation and no more worms. Might be worth trying, it’s cheap and easy to do.

Borax powdered soap is good to sprinkle around the foundation. Even better if you can sprinkle it in the walls before they put up the insulation and drywall in new construction.

We used a power washer and consentrated cleaning the groves on the concrete floor. That did it.

I have had luck with Sevin granules. Water immediately after spreading around the base. You can also spray up to 3 foot mark of the foundation using the liquid sevin.
