OP, get measured for clubs. then look for a set uf used ones that are at least close o the correct size. Play for a while, get some lessons, play for a while, then and only then look at a new set of clubs. I am still in the play with the used clubs (6 years) mode.

I bought my 1st set at Sarasota. They made sure the length, grips and shaft were correct for me. The clubs were fine and then I upgraded. People I know who bought cheap used clubs did not stick to playing golf. Do it correct from the beginning and you will be happy.

Garage sales often have decent used clubs that would be affordable and adequate for a beginner.

Try out demo clubs at Sarasota. They have club fittings. eBay, second swing or callaway have used club stores online

Everyone I know who bought the cheap used clubs that did not fit them quit golf pretty quickly. Spend some money for clubs that fit you and you will have a better time.

Look at facebook marketplace.
If you’re older, get clubs that have senior shafts (it makes a difference). You should be able to get a set for $100 with a bag.

Go anywhere other than Sarasota. Oh they’ll sell you the clubs, but if you go back and ask for another club to match the set, they will just tell you it can’t be done. Walmart has better service

Along with any clubs you buy make sure you take LESSONS. I am not a teaching pro and suffer with all the problems you get from learning from friends and trying to teach myself. Things that show up even after I've learned the correct way to swing and make contact. You'll enjoy golf a lot more if you. start out correctly. Good luck.

Don’t listen to those saying you shouldn’t get cheap clubs. My first set of clubs was a Spalding set that were cheap. I was 13 . I didn’t get a good set until I was in my 30’s and they still weren’t measured to me. I am still using that set today although I changed some out to hybrids. Start with a cheaper set and use until you are sure you like the game. Make sure you like the weight of the set you buy as well as the length and you will be fine. Check out Walmart, Dicks, Sports Authority or some other sporting goods store. They have them on display and just go from one to another till you find one that feels good. You will know when you find it. As you play , you will decide whether you want a better set or whether the set you have will last you the rest of your life. Enjoy - it’s only a game

The clubs don't matter getting lessons to start with a fairly good swing makes the difference. AFTER you can hit the ball fairly consistently and you play for awhile (including champion) you can shop for clubs

Maybe try Play it again sports in Leesburg. I started out to just have fun, made adjustments as I went along. If I start getting upset with myself or mad I’ll quit. 😁

If your just starting and never played a $200 new set or a used set. Use them for 6-8 months and if you like the game you can get fitted for clubs. Prices are generally set by the manufacturer so the prices are very similar at all stores

TAKE LESSONS - You can have the best clubs made and still end up hating the game.

Its not the arrow, its the Indian.........take lessons first.....once you have a swing, the clubs become important... no swing it won't matter what arrow you get...........Sarasota has teachers........

I would agree with this if the price range of golf clubs were not so great. A person going to a pro shop can easily get "fitted" and sold a $800 set of clubs. Assuming they are just starting, if the length is close to correct, they wont hit the $800 clubs any better than the $100 used set. Just my opinion.

BTW, a very close approximation of the correct length can be found on line by entering a few facts such as gender, height, and age. Just google "what is the correct golf club length for me".

I second Play It Again Sports in Leesburg! I got a very full set of Adams complete with bag and all new grips for $300. That set is only about a year old, so not ancient tech, either.

Before you spend money and time learning an buying the wrong stuff. Go to a golf Pro, learn how to properly grip the golf club along with the correct posture for your swing, which he or she will teach you. There is a body posture to learn and from that and based on your physical size and shape you will have a lie angle the club that is best for your posture should have. Then you can buy clubs that fit you, much like your shoes reg, 2E, 3E etc. Sound like alot, well if is, but can be accomplished for many of these things in a few visits to your local Golf Pro. wish I had started that way. Good luck

find golf clubs that look good and feel good to you. i started with some clubs from my mom, dad, uncle nothing matched, within a year i was playing pretty good, after you find out if you will ever be good then you can make the decision.

Garage sales until you know how to hit a ball it makes virtually no difference in the club you use. spend 50 bucks on a full set of older clubs with bag then if you like it you can upgrade to your skill level

New to the villages and new to golf. Where is a good place to buy a beginner set of clubs.

I got a brand new set of Cobra ladies golf clubs from Golf Discount online. They are the same set Sarasota was selling but $150 cheaper. If I remember correctly you give them your height and go from there. You can have then adjusted if you don't feel comfortable with them. I LOVE my clubs and I've only been playing golf a few years. Good clubs won't make you a better player, but I think they help as far a accuracy and distance. I had a cheap little beginner set when I first started and could tell a difference when I got the better clubs. I think you will love golf!!

My suggestion is that you look for a used set before you put out your $$ on a new set. Once you determine golf is for you then you can start looking at new clubs.

I use my dad's old Bobby Jones set and I usually shoot 75 too. Usually do even better on second hole.

My first and only set with a bag was $25 at Market of Marion. They served me well for my year long try out of golf. I also took lessons with pro David Sherman of The Villages Golf Academy, the lesson were worth it.
