Well, lucky me, been here one month and my A/C just stopped working -- blowing warm air. There's a label on the unit from Munn A/C out of Fruitland Park. Called them and they installed it in 2008 (Trane unit). I have an appt with them tomorrow to come find out what's wrong. Any body on here have any experience or recommendation on Munn? I did look in the Contractor listings page on here, but didn't see their name; however, that probably doesn't mean they're not a good reliable company and just no one has listed them.

On the phone, the guy I spoke with at Munn said it's probably in need of refrigerant and that it may new new coils. Apparently, refrigerant should never leak. New coils were estimated at over $1k. Don't know if that's reasonable or not. Smart thing to do would be to call 3 companies and get their diagnostics and quotes (each, of course, charge a service fee); however, it's hot in here and I want the A/C fixed as soon as possible.

Basically, want to know if anyone's had experience with Munn and their opinion on the company. Thank you in advance.

Munn's installed our heat pump when our house was built in 2016. We have had Munns service it each year and have been happy with their service and their fee. Others may have had the same or different experience. If yours was installed in 2008, it is 13 years old. I do not know what the life expectancy is for heat pumps and air conditioners. It may be approaching the time to replace it rather than repair it, especially if the repair cost is high.

Well, lucky me, been here one month and my A/C just stopped working -- blowing warm air. There's a label on the unit from Mann A/C out of Fruitland Park. Mann or Munn’s? If it’s Munn’s, they’ve put in two mini-split systems for us and they do our yearly service calls; we had no issues with them.

If it needs refrigerant, you have a leak. If you need a new evaporator coil, it will be expensive. It sounds like you need a new system. Get 3 quotes. Start with Munn's and Chuck Farrell. I have not heard of Mann, but the only BBB listing shows the company as being out of business. He has 6 Yelp reviews with an average of only 2 stars out of 5.

I think it's Munn's -- probably need to go and try to read the sticker on the A/C again.

We had our new hvac system installed by DeSantis, and we're very happy. But the best tip was when they came out to check, and told us it would be a couple of days before installation, they recommended that we buy a small window air conditioner to get us through the heat. And it worked! Afterwards, we donated it to a women's shelter. Worth it!!!

Excellent sales and service experience with Munn. I signed a maintenance contract for 2 yearly services $139. $40 cheaper then same service back in Jersey. My AC went out Mother’s Day Munn was here. Quick response. No charge bc it was under service contract.

Is there water around the unit? Might just need the drip pipe opened and flowing out...if it get plugged air will stop working. I pour warm soapy water down the pipe monthly to keep it flowing!

It sounds like you only have one AC unit for your whole house. Before we bought a home in Florida, one of the vacation rental homes we rented had one AC unit for the home, plus a mini split in the master bedroom and a mini split for the enclosed lani. I thought that was a very smart idea! That way, you can have the temperature lower in the master bedroom at night, instead of the whole house. Another benefit is when, not if, the main AC fails, you have back up AC for your house. You could run the split units, and use fans to blow the cool air around the house. Then you could limp by until the main AC system was repaired or replaced.

The Florida house we ended up buying has a heat pump AC unit for the main house and a second heat pump unit for the master bedroom suite area. That’s also a smart way to have a lower sleeping temperature in the master bedroom and have back up AC if or when one of the AC systems fail.

If you just have one heat pump AC unit for the whole house, you should consider adding a mini split for your master bedroom, so that you could have a lower sleeping temperature and have backup AC in your home. Then you could limp by with the backup AC, since open windows and fans don’t cut it in Florida in the long summertime!

In Minnesota, I bought six portable electric space heaters for backup heat, in case my furnace quit working. I did that after the second emergency repair call in the middle of the winter.

Having a backup AC system is very important in Florida!

I had same issue, after recently moving(buying) here a couple years ago. I called Munns, technician came out, and told me almost exact same thing as they told you. Then, their office called and tried to sell me a new unit(mine was 7yrs old). I also had my split unit in lanai go, and same tech quoted me parts and labor for 3 different parts??? (NOTE: Kind of unusual for 3 parts to all go bad?!) Needless to say, I called someone else(independent contractor, also a Vet), who was a nice young guy. He lifted the humidistat, showed me where it fills with water(shuts down the system), drained and cleaned it, and PRESTO! Everything works! NO 3 bad parts! For the main unit, it was a capacitor. No need for a new coil, etc. And no more Munns!

Used Munn's for service because that name was on the unit. Said Freon was low so sent out another technician for that. He said probably had a leak and it would be $175 to look, but no guarantee of finding the leak. I chose to have Freon added. That was March 29th. So far it's still cooling.

Here is my experience with Munn’s. Husband in hospital and I’m there all day. When I get home I realize house hasn’t started to cool down for bedtime. Air not working. I call Munn’s at 9 PM and a gracious lady says if I will be up they will be here by 11. A very professional guy named Bill came, reassured me he would fix it and did so within a half hour. Cost $80. I had their maintenance and parts program and only had to pay half of emergency service charge. They have done our service since moved in 5 years ago and have always be fair and done a great job!

We use Munns and they were fair to us and quick. At this time of the year, may not be practical to get 3 estimates, especially if you need a new system unless you have a small window type AC or willing to get a hotel for several nights. Too hot.

Munns is the BEST! I’ve been here almost 16 years and my AC went after 12 years. They are meticulous and I have a twice-a-year maintenance contract with them. Several times they made house calls for me and didn’t charge me for the visits. I highly recommend them but there are also several other good companies out there. To sum it up—-they say that 7-10 years is the most you should expect an AC unit to last in Fl

You can save money by buying a system from a smaller company. But, if I needed a new HVAC system, I would most likely buy it from Munn's because they are available for repairs every day. They have lots of technicians. Last summer, my AC failed at 10 AM on a Saturday morning, and Munn's had it repaired by 2 PM. And, I don't have a service contract with them. I don't think service contracts are worth the cost from any company.

When Chuck Farrell AC installed a new unit they said with proper installation/care it should last at least 15 years.
They replaced a 23-year-old Reem.

I had an issue with AC last fall, called Munn’s at 9:55 pm, they came out at 10:15pm and sent a photo and bio on the service tech. He checked it out and added freon, and he said I still had about 6 months left on my unit but suggested I buy in the spring cause there’s a rebate. I had it installed last month, $6,500 and already got my rebate check of $500. You can’t beat the customer service, and their techs know their stuff!

May be all you need to do is pour hot water in the white drain line pipe. Little geckos get in there and stop it up. First time that happened to us we paid a repairman $100 (I think) to come and repair it. Next time, we poured 1 gallon of hot water down the pipe ourselves.

Bad time to have a breakdown, all the companies are in hot demand right now.

This will sound very simple but make sure you check your filters first. Than make sure your outside system hasn't had bushes growing around system and restricting airflow. Simple things but could save you thousands

Munns has an excellent reputation for quality, prompt service. This comes at premium prices. There are lots of other companies, some just as good, less expensive, maybe fewer techs available, so maybe a little slower. Some aren't as good, but are faster and cheaper. Some are more expensive but not as good or as fast. But with Munns, you're paying the extra for the reputation and consistency.

Meanwhile - the coils are expensive, sure - but a new unit outside your house will run around $6000-10,000 installed, if it turns out you need a whole new unit. Ours was $7200, including a new concrete slab foundation for the unit since our old one was the wrong shape and had a crack in it. Ours is an AC with a heat pump, fairly typical setup down here.

Our old one was definitely OLD, so we knew this would happen sooner or later when we bought the house.

Munn’s was the subcontractor who did the HVAC install when our house was built. I have used them twice a year ever since. They serviced the furnace in the fall and the A/C in the spring. Always professional. Recommended by me, for sure.

Maybe a year or two after I bought my house, my A/C quit on a weekend. I called around to find some guy who would come out and look at it. He gave me an estimate in the thousands. If I gave him a deposit right now, I could get a discount. I said I wanted to talk to Munns on Monday to see if it might be on warranty. He laughed at that... there was NO WAY that would happen. I gave him his deposit.

I did call Munns on Monday, it took them a few days to come out. Yep, they said it was covered under warranty. They wrote up a work order with NO CHARGE written in large letters.

I called the other A/C guy and asked for my deposit back. He said THEY ARE LYING TO YOU. He wouldn't give me back my deposit. After Munns came and fixed it at no charge, I called him back and demanded my deposit back. Eventually, I threatened to hire a lawyer and sue him before getting my deposit back. He deducted $125 from my deposit for a week-end service call.

Since then I have stayed with Munns.

UPDATE on this post. My appt with Munn's today was between 11:00-1:00 pm. I got a text saying Ryan was on his way (text included his picture, his experience and how long he'd been with the company -- nice feature, in my opinion). He got here at 11:30 and started checking the simple things like clogged drain. It was a big clogged, but that wasn't the problem. After a few checks of the pump in the garage, he took off the covers to the condenser and it was pretty quick to find the leak -- it was hissing and I could clearly see the hole in the small copper tube. He was able to braise it (I call it soldering) and also installed some sort of big blue filter thing (needed for impurities, etc. -- I don't know -- but Ryan is very knowledge and explained in detail how everything worked and why -- made sense to me).
Total cost including a year warranty for maintenance is $870 which includes 7 lbs of refrigerant. My system literally had zero left. I'm satisfied was the cost and impressed with technician.

Thank you everyone for your comments and for so many recommendations for Munn's.

Before paying for coils and refrigerant need to be sure it’s not something as simple as a $20 capacitor. Don’t know anything about Munns other than they have a good rep not to go straight to coils and gas raises a question in my mind. Just sayin!

Had a new carrier system installed at one home and it failed the county inspection. It was too close to the home. A rookie mistake. Since the service company is on the hook in that case they were prompt to correct the issue.

With that exception, I'm pleased with their service. I suggest you ask for an experienced technician, and they may say they all are.

I paid $1200 to have my coil replaced. It was not done by Munn's.

If you are looking for a second quote, we have been using Sunshine AC for annual service and repairs for 11 years. Recently had the exact same issue as you (blowing warm air) and it was a capacitor (?). Only cost $120 and our diagnostic fee was waived because of our service contract.

We moved here 11 years ago and have had them the entire time. I have never had an issue with them at all. When my son moved here and needed assistance we called them again. Now both residences use them with confidence in their availability and efficiency.

Same thing happened with us. When we bought the house, we knew the previous owners never put a mini split on the 'NOW' glassed in lanai, BUT, before we could even call folks to come get estimates for a mini split, the entire a/c system went out. We did research, called Munn's (and others), got the mini split and a new a/c system. We have tbeen very pleased with the services (free) that Munns had given us. About to use them again for another project.

Call Chuck Farrel for the best price on a new unit.

Is there water around the unit? Might just need the drip pipe opened and flowing out...if it get plugged air will stop working. I pour warm soapy water down the pipe monthly to keep it flowing!
Where is the drip pipe? Inside the garage unit or outside heat pump? There is some water inside of the unit in the garage but I don't see anything looks like drain/drip pipe. BTW, my unit is 17 yrs old but was working fine until I did my floor changed from carpet to Laminate and the filter was fully covered with wood debris afterwards. I changed the filter but the AC is working less than full capacity.

Cheers!

After Munn's routine service, check your air filter, apparently they don't replace it. Mine was so clogged, I'm surprised air even flowed through it. I canceled the contract.
