Pros and Cons of a Panoramic View Birdcage

We just met with T&D pool designer. We are unsure of the option of having the panoramic birdcage for view of our natural pond or the standard screen size birdcage. Looking for opinions of those who have the panoramic screens and whether or not you think it was worth the expense.

I am not sure just what is a "Panoramic Birdcage". I know you are on the right path choosing T&D to design and build. I cannot say enough good about them. VERA was our designer and not only does she know how but she is very ethical and kind and charming and good and lovely and trustworthy.

If you mean a LARGE birdcage to house your pool, (our view is the pretty homes across our side yard) then it might help to see a picture of ours. I never tire of showing it. It is our first pool and we enjoy it looking at it, sitting by it and swimming in it.

A Panoramic birdcage by T&D standards are 4” x 4” aluminum uprights, as opposed to the standard 1” x 2” aluminum upright . The advantage of using the 4” x 4” uprights is that you use half as many. Giving you the panoramic view. I just curious whether it’s worth the expense of spending another 2k.

I saw one put in recently, from the outside. Looks very nice, but I had no idea the increased cost was that high. We have a large birdcage, about 800 square feet with the 'normal' 6 foot spacing on uprights and have no problem with the view. Also, if we get a hole, we only need to replace one piece of screen about 6 ft by 6 ft, not 20 feet or more by 6 feet.

We have been looking at new builds with panoramic view. Have to say the amount for a birdcage is not cheap, 2 k more would be worth it. If you go to the new area you can look at some first hand

We brought someone in to convert our existing standard birdcage to a panoramic view. Wow - what a difference!! Our friends saw it and had theirs converted too. If you have a nice view, this really enhances it. I would do it again in a heartbeat!

I believe with a panoramic view you cannot get the 20/20 screen. The 20/20 is much better for keeping out those tiny noseeum bugs. We have 20/20 screens for our birdcage and front door screens.

We put a pool in with T&D less then a year ago. We also have a lake/pond for a view. We upgraded on the lanai and are very happy that we did!

Does more space between the panoramic columns mean more chance for the screen to flap over time from strong winds?

The block columns look very nice down south. A birdcage can seem too exposed, like a fishbowl. Columns make it seem a bit more enclosed and private, even though it isn’t. A little more like being in your home instead of on display.

Just built a new house and did panorama screens on our lanai and birdcage which has a pond and a preserve view. It was well worth the extra money that we spent as it’s a beautiful unobstructed view, and I am so glad that we did it. We have panoramic view birdcage with only 1 post across a 45’ span. It gives us a terrific view of the pond and golf course. Cost was about $2k extra and definitely worth it. We also have the 20 screen (versus 14)

Amplifying the comments by other owners, the panoramic view is worthwhile to us. The extra cost will have zero return upon sale of the home though.

You can get panoramic with block columns. I think the savings vs expense is more prevalent if you go with block columns since you will need less of them so you will save on the cost of having more columns.

I was very sorry that I screened in mine as the screen totally obstructed the view. So then I had to pay to have the screen removed, very expensive mistake!

We used T&D last year and went with panoramic cage in extra large size so there is no horizontal bar on the screen. We love it and it creates an invisible look to the screen that really shows off our view! Also we used the tighter 20/20 screen type so no bugs.

Have panoramic cage snd well worth the money. The view is perfect. Get another quote though. Try D&J. They did ours and super pleased

Just an observation .... The light colored screens and support/uprights tend to look old/faded after a few years. Some even appear to make the home look like a trailer instead of site built. The black ones look much classier.

I think you’re wrong; we are getting the panoramic view with 20/20 screens from T&D.

T & D did our pool 2-1/2 years ago with panoramic bird cage. Screens are all still nice and tight. I highly recommend the panoramic!

We have the panoramic screening for our (very large) birdcage and love it. Fabulous views of the pond and golf course. Well worth the extra cost, in our opinions, since the view was a big reason we bought this house.

We had T&D do our pool and cage completed in January. We opted for the Paoramic view and have 2 posts across our 60 foot view of a lagoon and golf course beyond. We could not be happier with the result. An outstanding view. We used the fine mesh screen to restrict insects. We are more than happy. T&D is the best. Vera was great in design and the entire process was a well oiled machine.

I use the Dark Solar Screen , makes it harder to see in, but unrestricted view looking out!
