Let me know if you do it.
Would love to see the look on car driver faces when you fly past!
Definitely would install seat belts and roll bars!

This fellow lives near us.
He has a road legal garden shed. It goes at over 100MPH!

a 100 MPH garden shed? LOL. Interesting, but I'll pass on that one.

Its cooling it that is the issue. Most are air cooled, water cooling would be a solution as the engine sits enclosed and will get very hot.

The result of your experiment will be a Low Speed Vehicle, and subject to all of the rules and regulations, so you will have IMHO a couple of thousand dollars in other upgrades as well as insurance cost similar to a car.

My neighbor did that years ago. It was very noisy. And I went to a movie Watchmen (2009) - Rotten Tomatoes (https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/watchmen) with him as his wife has very different taste in movies than us two and had to hang onto the side whenever he took a turn. I only went to one movie with him but would sometimes see him in the action movie audiences here in the Villages with a guy or alone. The golf cart went way too fast for me.

How about shifting? I don't think it's a good idea. It's only going to bring heartache and trouble!

I've always wondered if there was an underground golf cart racing circuit here in The Villages. Lots of retired motorheads with time on their hands, knowing that the cart can be tweaked to get a few more MPH out of it. Meeting after everyone is asleep (9 PM?) on some remote golf course fairway and drag racing for pink slips, Titleist pro v1x balls, and little blue pills.

I always wondered how my cart would run if I dropped the engine out of my Goldwing into it...

:icon_wink: I was thinking of doing it but don't know what I would do with the jet engine and after burners that I have in it now. And what about all the JP4 that I store in my garage? :boom: Oh and don't forget the JATO bottles too.

Oh corse I thought of it! Would have to reinforce the chassis and change out the rear end. Was thinking a water cooled 250-350cc engine, or a one of those supped up go cart engines. Lots on structural work but would be awesome to do burn outs!!

A LSV or NEV, by Florida law has to be powered by an electric motor. Unless he/she were to make it a three-wheeler it could not be made street legal. The main question is WHY?

Why not? I’m betting the Wright Bros heard a lot of the same responses! I would love to see it.

I bought a used standard Yamaha Golf Cart that had modifications (governor and tires) where it would go about 30mph. The standard cart suspension was never designed to go that fast. Making turns, hitting bumps, and braking were a little scary. The carts are not Formula 1 vehicles. My point it that a more powerful motor is just the start of mods needed to make it a safe ride. I changed the cart so that it maxed out at 23mph.

Sounds like a new hit series to me. "Golf Cart Outlaws" you should pitch it to Discovery. We could light up a discreet fairway at night. Racing each week to see who can be at the top of the 352's list. We could race other golf cart outlaws from other states on their local fairways. Have them come here. Don count me in. I have a couple of high revving chain saw motors laying around. Hmmm wait I know where I can get my hands on a turbo hayabusa mill, no nitrous needed. A Line lock spool up the turbo, yep I'm definitely in.

Golf Cart racing would be a great idea for TV. and I am sure there would be plenty who would participate.
We have the British Lawn Mower Racing Association in UK. and if you look on Youtube you can see how fast they can get the mowers to go.
The only stipulation is the machines must still be able to cut grass!

There are companies that make retrofit kits to mount predator style air cooled engines in golf carts.

Big Block Engine Kits & Golf Cart Performance Upgrades | Vegas Carts — Vegas Carts & Performance (https://vegascarts.com/)
Golf Cart Engine Upgrade Kits for sale | Cart Parts Plus (http://www.cartpartsplus.com/performance-golf-cart-parts/golf-cart-engine-upgrade-kits)

Do a You Tube search you will find a wealth of information on the topic. I would also consider a 4 wheel disc brake kit and a steering system upgrade.

There are some YouTube videos on people who have done that. One guy somewhere in Florida did a video showing his cart going 100 mph. Worth watching... I’m sure you don’t want to go that fast.

Once had a guy working for me and he had somehow (don't ask me how) installed a Chevy
engine in a regular VW and lined the fenders with lead to hold it down. He would have
fun on the NY Throuway passing a large car and racing it when they challenged his speed. Takes all kinds to make up a world?:)

Rich, a friend in Virginia did just that and it worked out quite well. It was not water cooled but he mounted a fan to cool the motor,
much like the lov jugs that are used on Harley's but larger.

Install a Big Block Kit , Vegascarts.com , Just remember if you have it you will used it. My cart does 25 maxed out and for me thats just enough to pass safely if needed . I ran into a guy the other day that took his cart to Wildwood Muffler and they modified the exhaust.
It sounded great.

RICH GO AHEAD AN DO IT. If you don't you'll always wonder what if? In 1969 I had a small interest in a Dune Buggy shop, after massive amounts of Liquid refreshments We decided to put a Chevy 283 in a VW Bug. The motor was in the front. You sat in the back behind the Transmission. After flipping the prototype. "What a Wheelie" we got the gearing right and installed wheelie bars. We took it to shows to "HYPE" the business. It would get very hot inside so we installed a moon roof and fans. Still very hot. Wasn't youth grand?

You have to grow old but you don't have to grow up. Len

Not to throw a bucket of water on your idea because it does sound interesting, but I think that there are rules against modifying golf carts to make them go faster. You might want to read up on The Villages rules and regulations regarding golf carts. You don't want to do something to your vehicle that makes it illegal to drive.

Anybody know the Legal speedlimit for golfcarts in The Villages? Maybe check with the sheriff's office?

Time on your hands? Why not volunteer for a youth group teach young ones how to build carts etc. Staying safe keeps insurance and medical costs down.

Not a bad idea...Theirs always some head work and a header....I did talk with a machine shop about doing some work...but he only will
work on my engine with his extra time....no need for that.

I installed a 750cc Briggs V-Twin Vanguard engine from a Bandelero race car. I used the stock transmission from the Club Car and a snowmobile front and rear clutch. Stopping was going to be a problem so I installed 4 wheel disc brakes, it really stopped great and had lots of torque. I did this before any kits so had to make some parts. Ran the engine into a stock club car muffler so exhaust was fairly quite. The most noise came from the air cleaner on the two barrel carb. I did this to a Streetrod so they have a longer wheel base and steered and drove nice

There are kits now available to install Briggs and Honda engines in golf carts. I have seen 4 cylinder motorcycle engines with transmissions installed and flip over backwards. Have fun with your project. At one time in my younger days I built a few race cars :) so could not refuse the golf car modifications

The Villages had drag races for golf cars at the polio grounds during some special event. The first year they had them I won the gas car class and also beat the electric car winner, they had it the next year but then stopped having them.

There used to be a Goldwing mechanic in New Hampshire named Jim Venne (R.I.P.) who operated Venco Wings. He had a 1500cc six cylinder Goldwing engine stuffed inside a golf cart. Man, whenever I saw that thing tooling around, I had to laugh. It was awesome. Just the other day I was talking to some friends about it, saying how cool it would be to have one. And BTW, it was a fairly quiet machine.

Thought about this often.
Just because it might go over 25 MPH doesn't mean you have to drive it that fast.
My car has 160 MPH on the speedometer but I wouldn't even think about going so fast.

I understand some of the future Mars astronauts are demanding a 350HP V8 upgrade to the Mars Rover. Interestingly, they're all men. The problem becomes hi-speed reentry and parachuting down to the planet's surface. And a really big gas tank. But I'm sure we can figure it out! Can you imagine blasting over the dunes with that baby!
