Looking forward as many of you know to buy a place in TV. In order to expedite our move at age 55, my wife 52, is my goal that would be about 15 months. Anyone work a part time job to keep moving and just for beer money upon arrival. I have heard there are part time jobs that don't pay much 9-12 per hour. I am a heating, plumbing and electric guy and my wife is an office manager. So is it easy or difficult to get a part time job to work till Social Security age or stay in the cold for a few more years? Thoughts? Thanks in advance.

Wages down here are very low. Most PT jobs are minimum wage which is under $9.00 an hour.

You will have no problem getting a job. My brother walked into a parts place in Belleview and was offered a job on the spot. Go to Indeed.com. Data enter what type a job you are looking for and The Villages and you will get an idea of what is available and the pay.

Part-time jobs are available in TV. There are “hiring” signs just about everywhere. However, benefits are rarely available for these jobs and as you mention most are in the $10-$12 wage category. Most higher paying skilled jobs are full-time positions and some come with benefits such as insurance, vacation etc.

We would not need benefits. Thanks for the response.

If you can transfer an electrician or plumbing license down here I don't think you would have much of a problem getting a job here. This Mike Scott Plumbing | Careers (http://www.mikescottplumbing.com/careers/) and this Electrician Wildwood FL Careers | Pikes Electric Inc. (https://pikeselectric.com/careers-electrician-wildwood-fl/) are looking as are many others. There is a lot of commercial and residential construction going on in this area. I've no idea what the pay is.
The Villages usually has openings for office workers but the low wages.

Indeed.com was great advice. I saw dozens of jobs on the site that would be possible. Thank You.

If you want full time jobs with benefits, there are plenty. You would still have evenings and weekends to enjoy the amenities here. We moved here 19 years ago at ages 46 and 47. We both took full time jobs outside the Villages making very good money for down here and now are retired with pensions from ore jobs here and ss. Best move we ever made and so glad we came so young to enjoy it all. Hoping for another 19 or more years to enjoy it all here. Make the move, you won't regret it.

We have savings and I get a pension at 55 but supplement income until a time when we want to totally stop working while living the dream (TV). Thanks for your response grinning from ear to ear.

Financially we were more than set at 46 and 47, but when cobra went up to 1,300 per month we decided to go back to work. We both loved our city govt jobs and had full benefits and negotiated 4 weeks paid vacation so took great trips around the world. We now will never have any concerns regarding money, have more than we'll ever need as we were saving more and investing more throughout the years. Our thoughts were why spend down our savings and work part time when we could work a few hours more and be adding to our net worth. Just a thought. We lived here 2 years before we got jobs, waited for jobs we were happy in, searched outside the Villages and made more than 3x what you'll make in the Villages. I just retired and was actually sad to go. Think about it, adding to your savings for even only a few years is better than taking money out. By the way we now are millionaires, were almost there when we moved here, now well over. Be smart with your money and you'll be rewarded. Like I said, don't wait, whatever you decide regarding working, you'll be happy you made the move. Been here 19 years and loving it even more.

I have a house restoration company up north for 38 years, and own a house down here at TV. The most difficult thing I find here is trying find a good handyman in electric/plumbing/carpentry who comes before 9-10 AM and works till 3-4 PM. Maybe it's the heat, but I hear alot of folks with the same cry. The only way to get your work done is to call some of the bigger companies around who charge an arm and a leg to do simple tasks,...... and that is not right. If I were a guy with those skills, who was/is honorable, I would put my name out there and you could make a decent living doing work for folks, charge your own fee, and work the hours you want. Thanks for asking the question, and ........does anyone know of a good handyman? Cheerio and Happy New Year

You'll want to work to accumulate your quarters to get Social Security if you're planning on getting that at your full retirement age (or earlier). If it's needed, check at Medicare.gov Just saying--some people forget to take that into consideration. I wish we'd come sooner.

In Fl, most out of state licenses are not transferable, my massage person had to go to school for 2 years in Fl, despite the fact she had been licensed in NY-- My Electrical contractors license from NJ was not transferable, barbers licenses are not transferable--guess Fl hair is different than hair in other states--licensing is a cash cow in Fl

Villagesgal:
What kind of “ore jobs” did you have?
Did you work for Iron Ore related companies?
