Sticking garage doors

After 3 years in tv, this is happening. Dried paint is stuck to the vinyl gasket surrounding the outside of the garage doors. Think the painters didn't let the door dry before using. Over time this has rolled into small mounds now stuck to the vinyl and the doors stick to this when attempting to open. Any experience with a product that will remove this? Goo begone?
If you have any experience with this, could use some help. I have a temporary fix but would like to get rid of the root cause.

Yes...I see this all of the time doing inspections. WHENEVER I see a painted driveway under the garage door gasket I always recommend the installation of vinyl mopboard....also called "wall base". They have this at Lowes in four foot lengths for $2.35 each. Four of these will do a 2 car garage door.

This prevents the gasket from sticking and pulling up the paint. This will also hide the now damaged paint that stuck.

What happens is that in the Florida heat the door gasket and the paint sticks. In severe cases I have seen this stick to the point that the garage door opener "pulls" on the door until the door BANGS and snaps up. This can damage the garage door opener...I have seen at least one garage door opener ruined by this.

You can also lube the gasket a bit...I do not recommend this as much, but a SMALL amount of silicone on the gasket may prevent this from sticking. Of course, you do not want anything to be left on the floor and cause someone to slip.

If you look around at neighbors homes you will often see this wall base between the door and the floor. Now if you use Goo Gone or Oops or WD-40 often these products will remove that stuck on paint on the gasket. Then buying the wall base will solve your problem.

Why the guys that do this driveway painting do not tell you all this is beyond me. A person can also buy a 120' roll of this wall base for about $200.00 Doing this for folks would be a nice easy small business....

I have the same problem but not with the bottom gasket since my driveway painter installed a wall base under the door. My problem seems to be the weather gasket surrounding the door. It is loaded with what looks like old paint. When I open the door it bangs and shakes. I tried cleaning it with Goo Be Gone but it takes and hour to do a small section. Both garage doors have the same problem. Anything available that will clean this gasket without damaging it?

Generally there's two problems. The rubber weather stripping, or the painters painted the edges where the doors fold. The weather stripping can be cleaned with GOOF-OFF, and the folds can be sanded with a sanding sponge. Any questions call me Len 352-446-8875 I'll be happy to take a look.

Hi,, just a thought, rent a belt sander, then you will probably need a bunch of very coarse belts and sand it. There is also a power planer, it is very much like an old planer with a blade that will take off about 1/16 or less of an inch at each pass. If you can locate a good shop that has rentals, they will probably have both, the planer and the sander.
Caution, be aware of all safety, power tools can be dangerous.

I have used Goof Off to remove the paint and then used my can of spray oil for garage door chain on the rubber stripping. Works for quite a while but may come back and then I repeat procedure.

Takes about thirty minutes for two garage doors.

Mek, or tsp are two chemicals to remove unwanted paint. Found at lowes or HD.

My issue exactly. Now solved. Put a lite coat of vasoline (no other product) on the interior of the gasket. Walla !! Let me know how it works for you. Idea came from a garage door contractor. Claims I may never have to redo.
