Yes, the small square hamburgers from Krystal will be hot off the grill, with the brand new 1700 square foot restaurant opening in early September of 2014. This will be the first Krystal in Lake County and one of the most anticipated restaurants for many local residents. Krystal, headquartered in Atlanta, is the closest thing to the famous White Castle, located in other parts of the country. Krystal enjoys strong sales of their famous chili and crispy French fries. They also offer a huge Angus Burger and chicken sandwiches, along with milkshakes and even a breakfast menu. The closest Krystal to The Villages had been in Ocala, so this location on Highway 27, just south of Wendy's in Leesburg, will shorten the drive when you get that craving for a hot, fresh slider, complete with tiny grilled onions, pickle and mustard. Krystal has been around since 1932 and has finally arrived close to The Villages. Welcome!

We had 1 in the town we came from, was very excited to see them come to town. Unfortunately, the food was TERRIBLE!!!!! And to this day, I still get queasy when I think of them. Never went back. If you don't agree, that is fine, but this is my honest opinion.

This is GREAT NEWS!! First time I ate a Krystals was when I was in the Army stationed in Savannah in 1972. It was a drive-in with a waitress delivering to your car. It was great because it was on the way to Savannah Beach. Coming back in your wet bathing suit, it was nice to be able to stay in your car.
Over the years everytime I'm near a Krystal I've got to stop. We go to Ocala or Gainesville just about once a month, and I always make a stop. It's my favorite burger. Now, if only Dairy Queen would return to TV we would have it made.

Ya know... If you are craving White Castles, you can buy the frozen ones and zap them in the microwave. They have them in Sam's Club and probably in Publix too.

Excited about Krystal's! I put mustard on White Castles to get them to be more like Krystal's. Yes, they do taste better after the bars close for some reason!

Having been raised in Jacksonville, Fl, I always enjoyed the Krystal burgers. When I moved to NJ, I could not find a Krystal burger place. I went on a business trip to Dresher, Pa and they had a special snack at the meeting from White Castle. I was happy because they were my favorite Krystal burgers.
Personally , I cannot find a difference in the taste.
Now, my question. Where in Leesburg is the Krystal place going to be? I have not seen an address
And a second question: which came first - White Castle burgers or Krystal burgers? Google people please respond!

Only know White Castle but I'd like to give Krystal a try. The microwave White Castles are pretty good when you add a pickle but not the same as getting a sack at the counter.

White Castles are the best. Krystals are ok but I just order mine with no mustard. No which you eat, you pay for it the next day.

The first Krystals' opened in Tennessee in 1932, they now have 360 locations in 8 southern states. I've eaten at both in Savannah, Starke FL, Gainesville FL, Ocala FL and Myrtle Beach.
The new store in Leesburg is 815 N. 14th St., which is Hwy 27 just after the 441 split, you'll see a Pizza Hut and a shopping Center with 'Big Lots', and then just after the Wendys is where is should be. Another way to go is take 44 east and continue onto Main St., then turn left on Hwy 27 and it will be about a mile north on the left.

We have a Krystal in Ringgold Ga. I only eat there when my wife is out of town, she won't eat there.
We were in NJ in June and went to a White Castle. Far superior.

Krystal has announced that they will open for business on Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2014. Their hours of operation will be 6:00 a.m. until midnight, but will expand to being open 24 hours on Friday and Saturday. There appears to be great anticipation among locals about the opening. Corporate officials have been very pleased with the incredible response and look forward to a great opening and a long and lasting presence in the area.

Did anyone know that country music singer Crystal Gayle took her stage name from Krystal hamburgers? It was from the suggestion made by her sister, Loretta Lynn.
Seems like kind of a stretch to go from Brenda Webb to Crystal Gayle, doesn't it?
Anyhow, I have never eaten a Krystal hamburger and probably never will.
I do like the music of both Crystal Gayle and Loretta Lynn, though.
I often stop at the Krystal in the Atlanta airport for a quick bite. Like it.

Actually, I prefer the chicken burger at Krystal...give it a try. Also, it seems the new store is rather small. Obviously not as big as the one in Ocala. Do hope they have a few booths to sit at.

Today was the first day of operation for the local Krystal Restaurant. Controlling traffic was a significant factor, as huge numbers of customers visited the sparkling new restaurant. It became necessary for several managers and staff to set up traffic cones at the entrances and allow customers to enter two lines that surrounded the building. All the parking slots were filled and the traffic line extended out onto Highway 27 at various times during the day. The response by the general public has been overwhelming. Of course, after a few days or weeks, the serious traffic congestion will dissipate and customers will be able to be served in a timely manner. I suspect the corporate officials from Krystal are ecstatic with the profound interest shown by the local customers.

Once the crowds clear, I will give it a try. I haven't had a fresh Krystal burger in a while. I do not think that the ones in the frozen section of Publix are that great. The bun never seems to get as soft as a real Krystal burger bun is.

PRESS RELEASE FROM KRYSTAL: LEESBURG, FLORIDA NEW LOCATION
http://krystal.com/images/uploads/press/IMG_5940.jpg
THE KRYSTAL COMPANY OPENS FIRST LOCATION IN LEESBURG, FLORIDA
(LEESBURG, Fla.) –
The Krystal Company, known for its classic, small and square Krystal burger that has been a Southern favorite for more than 80 years, will celebrate the grand opening of its first Leesburg, Florida, location with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Tuesday, Sept. 2.
The restaurant will open at 815 N. 14th St. and serve Krystal’s iconic burgers – made with 100 percent USDA beef, diced onion, mustard and dill pickle – all steamed to perfection on the famous Krystal bun. The menu will also include Krystal Chiks and Pups and breakfast items like the Sunriser and Scramblers.
“Leesburg is a tight-knit community and we have many guests who currently drive to our Orlando locations to experience Krystal,” said Vice President of Development and Construction Brian Blosser. “We look forward to serving Krystal’s craveable burgers, breakfast and specialty items to our fans right here in Leesburg.”
The restaurant will be open Sunday through Thursday from 6 a.m. to midnight and 24 hours on Friday and Saturday. It will open to the public at 6 a.m. on Sept. 2, with the ribbon cutting at 8:30 a.m.
The Krystal Company is eager to add new jobs in the community and is currently hiring for all positions at its Leesburg location, including general and assistant managers, shift leaders and team members.
The Leesburg location is part of a systemwide expansion for The Krystal Company, which anticipates opening up to 100 new units over the next three years.
