We just got our golf cart and were constantly being passed
by a lot of other carts. Are most people getting their carts to go over the 20 mph speed limit?

A simple way to check your speed is with a GPS. It is easy to download an app on your smartphone or just take your mobile GPS out of your car.

To answer your question, there are lots of people who have their golf carts adjusted to go faster than 20mph. Some get caught by the police and have to pay a $305.00 fine for the criminal offense of driving an unregistered vehicle and they have to show the court proof that their cart has been re-adjusted so it can only do 20mph. But many people never get caught and will continue to pass you. Just make sure that your cart is doing 20mph and don't worry about the others. You will see that after they pass you, you will probably catch up to them at gate crossings and traffic lights.

I think 90 per cent of golf carts can go over 20 and about 50 per cent of people drive them over 20. Driving on the roads there are speed traps set up but on the paths along Buena vista and morse you can go a little faster than 20 if you wish. No enforcement on paths because of private property.

I have found that going 90 to 100 mph in my golf cart makes it hard to turn.
From 80 to 90 mph it is hard on the windows. from 70 to 80 mph it is hard on the floor matts. from 60 to 70 mph it is hard on my hat. from 50 to 60 mph it is hard on my golf club covers they seem to come off. from 40 to 50 mph it is hard on bumps. from 30 to 40 mph it is hard on my eyes. from 20 to 30 mph it is hard on my breaks. from 10 to 20 mph I can see the flowers enjoy the ride and relax. |

Most carts do not go over 20mph - certainly not 90% My cart goes 20 and I get passed a couple times a week .
Sounds like your cart is slow if you are getting passed a lot. I would check the speed using a GPS and then contact your dealer. |

I asked at numerous golf cart shops if they could adjust my speed or tell me how to adjust my speed but they all said no. I downloaded an app that worked on my iPhone that said I was going 18mph which I thought was way to slow so I took matters into my own hands and looked on line for a video on how to adjust the speed governor on a Yamaha golf cart and reset it to a more appropriate speed. It was EXTREMELY easy to do. As an aside, the guy at Carts and Clubs said they set their carts to 24mph which personally I think is too fast but I think they also have a speedometer that is "standard" so you can see how fast you are going. Personally I don't want a speedometer because I don't want to think about my speed except to know that when my peddle is to the metal I am going the top speed I have preset myself and tested with my iphone app.
