Default Golf cart seat-belt question

We are going to have seat belts installed in both our 2015 club car and our 2014 yamaha and are trying to determine which type to use, retractable versus fixed lap belts. We don't want belts that will stick out in the middle of the seat when our dog is riding between us in the cart. For this reason we specifically added bench type aftermarket seats rather than bucket seats. Also, we want belts that will be out of the way when not using them (when golfing) so they will not be in the way when getting in/out of the cart frequently. I would greatly appreciate feedback from others with seat belts so we can make the best decision.

We have seat belts in our 2014 Yamaha. Wife insisted.
Not worth arguing about. THE FACT IS, AS I TOLD HER, WE NEVER USE THEM.

You golf cart is not a car it offers no protection in a crash a roll over etc. Are you better off strapped into the cart or jumping out-IT DEPENDS. For that matter are our belts properly secured to hold up your weight in an accident-truth many are not.

I would suggest you do ONE of your two carts and see what works for YOU.

I had retractable seat belts installed in my 2009 Yamaha by TV Golf Cart Store. They are exactly as you want. Give them a call or stop in one.

From what I read in the paper, the majority of golf cart accidents are hitting other carts, or turning to quick, things like that. The passenger gets thrown out or even the driver. Very few are where the occupants are better off without seat belts.

Too many times I read where the occupant gets thrown out and has a head injury.

We have the non-retractable kind and they are never in the way. While golfing we just pull them back and put them in the basket on our Yamaha. I definitely would get them if you have children riding in the cart. We even bought an extension for this use. I feel more comfortable riding with a seat belt down the long stretches of cart path because I am short and my legs don't touch the floor and I am not able to hold myself in if there is a sudden turn.

Seat belts are a must. I do not drive my golf cart without a seat belt secured. My passenger also must buckle up. Having the seat belt on is a very secure feeling, especially when going around corners so you don't feel like you are going to fall out of the cart.

I agree most people don't brace themselves when riding in golf cart. First quick turn and the are ejected. At least seat belt will keep you in the cart. Now if the cart tips over on your side you can still get severely injured. Cause your upper body can be under the cart. This why you must also hold on when riding just in case?

Thanks for the replies, but I am not looking for a discussion on why or why not seat belts are needed. We already have determined we want seat belt? Just looking for educated advise on which type of seat belt is best.

We put non-retractable seat belts on our Yamaha and they are easy to use. Never a fight pulling them out of the retractor or having the stiff extensions in the way (like my friend's cart).

When you need to lift the seat, just shove them under the basket. If you don't want to use them, buckle it together behind you and sit on it.

Seat belts are a must, please consider some type of leash or seat belt for your pet, too!

Our carts have retractable belts. The buckles in the middle, between the two seats, are on stiff cable that hold them in the right position for easy, one handed insertion. They might limit the space for a dog slightly but are between the two seating positions so dog is not likely to be there. The retractable parts are on the outer side of each seat and would not get in the way of the dog. I've seen non-retractable with the loose end lying all over the place including hanging on the ground - not what I wanted.

We have retractable belts on two carts and they are
very easy to use and stay out of the way when not in use!
Question for the OP, would you have non-retractable
seat belts installed in your car?

The first option I had installed on our cart in 2012 was non-retractable seat belts. On those occasions when we're not going to use the belts, I buckle them up and behind the upright support...it's smooth on the back and completely out of the way. For me the question now is whether I should have them removed and have a three-point belt installed.
