Instead of just complaining about repair companies why don't you start a club on repairing golf carts. And learn something about them, they are very simple units, people like a ajbrown and others can show how to use a meter and other simple checks. The more you know the less it will cost.

Just reading/catching up on this TOTV forum over coffee and saw this thread. Missed it the first time. I do appreciate the call out by my TOTV handle and accept that as a compliment

The first thing I will say is that there is a big difference between a guy like me that works on my two electric golf carts and a professional cart mechanic. The majority of mechanics are honest people with a lot of good experience. If you really had a club like this you would need some mechanics that actually know what they are talking about, not guys like me. When I work on my carts it typically begins with a bewildered, puzzled look and a club cart manual and could be followed by mild profanity …

If I have any expertise in golf carts it is electric only and it ends with battery maintenance. I do know how to use a voltmeter and I do know some stuff about battery maintenance to get the most out of the pack. If anyone is uncomfortable with these things (watering, SOC, cleaning, etc.), I or many others could help show folks how simple it is. I’ll never forget watching my neighbor (very smart man) fill his electric cart batteries. Take off cover, fill until water comes out top, push cover back on causing more water to come out. Of course we know it is not just water coming out….. all he needed was a 5 minute tutorial when he got his cart.

I do not know about the formality of a club for me personally, but I live in The Village of Mallory and I am usually happy to meet new folks and would be happy to share everything I know if it helped you feel more comfortable about your electric cart. What we do after that 7 minutes is up ?

I learned the term from a show on the speed channel called Shadetree Mechanic. It was mainly aimed for the do it yourself auto repair types. They would have a particular subject to discuss and include safety procedures and product placement.

I have actually seen that same thing at some cart shops!!

People you do not need to work on them but just knowing something makes you feel less abused. How about some ladies ??

Question on 2008 Yamaha gas cart...My brake lights do not work. Turn signals and head/tail lights work but not the brake light when I apply the brakes. Looked under cart at brake lever and rear end but do not see brake light switch. Any suggestions before I call to have it serviced?

I had the exact same problem; maybe this will help:

I found both wires to the brake light switch under the pedal were worn through where they were wire tied onto the top of the brake pedal shaft. I ran the wires through a piece of stiff rubber tubing, reconnected them and wire tied the tubing to the pedal shaft.

Thank you for the quick reply. Was access to this switch from beneath the cart or at the brake pedal above the floor board?
