My wife came home in the golf cart last night and barely made it over the golf cart bridge. I plugged the cart in and got no response from the charger. I figured that either the charger was bad or the on board computer was gone. This morning I borrowed my friend's charger and plugged it in. The charger came on, shut off and came on again as it should. I assumed it was a problem with the charger, but when I went back out to the garage a while later and the charger had turned off.
I plugged it back in and it came on again, shut off and turned back on. I then noticed that it's only pulling four amps. I thought this was strange so I plugged my charger back in and got exactly the same result. It came on, shut off and is pulling four amps. I thought that with the pack being so low, it should be pulling maximum amps. Any idea what might be going on here?

Well, you didn't like what I said, so guess you will figure it yourself what the issue is, the relative costs, and what to do. Certainly not worth pursuing more and getting into potentially ugly comments - have a good year and have fun carting around TV.

Why does every discussion or question about a golf cart devolve into this argument?
Does anyone have an actual helpful suggestions? By the way, I took the cart out and ran it for five miles. I plugged it back in and it starting pulling 15 amps. That was about two hours ago. I just took a look and it's now pulling two amps. It appears that the problem has corrected itself. If it is the onboard computer, the fact that it's a triple digit fix is not helpful. Is it $100 or $999? There's a big difference.

Carefully check each battery individually, use a hygrometer to check the specific gravity. If you find variations, you may have one or 2 bad cells. Check all of you connections at the batteries. Take each one off use a battery terminal cleaner, clean and replace, and tighten. Try charger and see if the results change. Also, I forgot to mention note ant cells that appear to be low on water, this could be an indication of a bad cell.
Hope this helps.

If it were me, I would want to know the voltage of the batteries after the charger shut off. Also the voltage of each battery after that 5 mile ride.
I would invest at some point in a nice multi meter. That said... There is a procedure to reset the OBC.. It seldom, but sometimes gets results. Reset the club car OBC OBCs always struck me as a ridulous amount of money. Almost worth getting a new 'smart' charger and bypassing the thing. Battery Boys sells a Bypass charger for around $400.00 that controls the charging cycle. The computer controller in your cart costs almost $500.00 to replace. I have changed both our carts to the Bypass charger and our problem is solved.
PS, also sold both the old chargers to recoup most of the cost. |

You can get an DPI Accusense Charger made in the USA that floats for the low three hundreds.
